ANOTHER AMAZING BOOK BY SHERRILL S CANNON! The Magic Word is a wonderful story told in rhyme about a little girl with no manners at all; she took what she wanted whenever she could; she made fun of people, at school she would push through the lunch lines. She did not treat people with respect at all! When it came time to invite her little friends to her birthday party, she received no replies in the mail. No one's coming to the party! Why, Mom? This makes little Elisabeth very sad and her mother sits her down to explain that maybe, just maybe her manners have cost her all her friendships. It's time for a change! Love these stanzas:
There is a Magic word
To use when you're in need,
So give a smile and shout it out:
The magic word is PLEASE!
There are some other words
That bring a magic touch:
When someone does nice things for you,
Say "Thank you, very much!"
Love the brightly colored illustrations! Ms. Cannon really has a knack for the written word and your child would definitely benefit from this book. Great for all ages and would make a wonderful bedtime story! Get your copy today--see what happens to Elisabeth.

The author's poetry is purely awesome as I have come to expect from Sherrill Cannon. I will say though, I was not overly impressed with the illustrations, in fact, I thought they did nothing for the book and that the author's poetry could have stood on its own.
This book can easily be read by an emerging reader or someone else reading to a child. Certainly the ideas described in the book should be discussed together either way.
I give this book 4 stars.

Sherrill S. Cannon, the author of this adorable book and a grandmother herself, still hears her mother's voice in her head. "What's the Magic Word?" her mother inquired way back when, as did my mother and many other moms who believed in teaching their kids manners. I heartily encourage mothers and fathers and all caregivers of little ones, whether or not they have already introduced their charges to the magic words of "thank you" and "please," to acquire Mrs. Cannon's "The Magic Word" and reinforce the message time and again.
Please and thank you!

Clothes Have Feelings Too! Charlie Learns to Care for His Things
The Magic Word gently teaches children two important life skills: how to make friends and manners. Ms. Cannon writes in rhyme that is simply and easy to follow. Kids will love learning how to treat others kindly while reading this story. It is also a good read-aloud-story, perfect for pre-school and kindergarten classes. The illustrator has given the child characters wonderful expressions that are easy to understand. They are drawn in soft pastels. This short, 25-page book, delivers on every level. Written in one of the most difficult manners, poetry, the story is pleasant, the message clear and the illustrations fantastic.
