I have rarely enjoyed a book as much as this one -- it reads like a boy's adventure novel, a thriller, a historical work and a business manual. Almost anyone between the ages of 40 and 60 heard the words, "It's easy, once you know the secret," words that began many a young person's love affair with magic as a hobby, or in many cases, a profession. "The Magical Life of Marshall Brodien..." tells the story of the man behind those unforgettable words and that unforgettable commercial, from his beginnings as a young magician in Chicago throughout his long, storied and continuing career.
A good biography makes you want to meet the subject and spend time with him. A great one makes you want to meet the author as well. This book makes you long to buy them both a steak dinner and hear more of the stories that John Moehring has brought to vivid life on the page. A great life story well-told, and definitely a delight to read.
I seldom re-read books, and more seldom recommend them to others. This one I do recommend, but you'll have to buy your own copy -- I'll be busy re-reading mine.
