This fan uses magnetic bearings, which means little or no friction is involved, and the "bearing" shouldn't wear out like in other fans. So far this fan has remained very quiet while pumping out a good amount of airflow (spec'd at 34 CFM).

Found a little device elsewhere that plugs into 120v AC house power and provides 2A of 12v DC power via a Molex connector. Thought it was high time to replace some noisy 120v AC muffin fans in our AV cabinet. So acquired the device, four of these 80 MM fans and one 120 MM. These 80 MM are whisper quiet with no vibration to speak of. The 120 MM has a bit of whine but all in all the "rattle and hum" of the old ventilation system is gone. The fans themselves are well made, plenty of length to the wires, and an adaptor from the small, 3 pin to full size, 4 pin Molex connector is included. The 4 pin Molex adaptor is "pass through", so one can daisy chain the fans. One can also fairly easily detatch the fan blades for cleaning. However, note that there is a little note included that advises one wipe the blades with a wet paper towel, not run the things under a faucet. There are some windings in the fan hub which one should keep dry. Very pleased.

Prior to using these I was using some Cooler Masters that were a little loud and didn't move as much air as I expected. I bought these based on my previous positive experiences with Enermax PSUs and I am very pleased. They are very quiet and my CPU temps are now 5 degrees cooler than they were with the Cooler Masters.

Highly recommended!

Price paid: $7.99 including shipping, on March 23, 2011.

This is a quiet and effective small fan. I have used it as a spare fan to lower the temperature of a 7200 rpm hard drive. Lately, I have been using it to blow air directly into/from the heat sink of a hybrid tube headphone amplifier. I have been able to do this because the fan's chord is long (at 20 inches) and it comes with a molex adapter. Also, I have the computer case on top of my desk at my right hand. So, all this makes the chord long enough to connect the fan to a free molex connector on my desktop PSU without having the case open, as the chord is long enough to enter the case through its backside.

From the experience with this fan, I can say that it blows enough air to produce significant cooling in whatever is closely in front of the fan, while being very quiet at the same time. I just placed a grill behind the fan, and it is less quiet than it was without the grill, but it is still quiet and effective.

I tried this fan as a case fan and even though I did not make any temperature measurements, it was obvious to me that it would take more than one of these, to have a significant drop in temperature in a computer case.

The blades are detachable in order to make cleaning of the fan, an easier task. It looks nice, too. The red blades and the black frame are a nice color combination for a fan of this size.

Four isolator mounts are included to replace the four (included) mounting metal fan screws. Those are very hard to introduce in the case mounting holes and if the metal screws are tight, there seems to be no vibrational noise coming from them.

I am happy with this purchase and I would have been willing to pay up to $8.99 including shipping, for this fan.

I had a bulb burst in my HD rear projection TV, so I installed some extra fans to cool down the bulb. I initially used a 80mm fan I had on hand but it was so loud I could hear it over the TV. I ended up purchasing this fan and although it is pricey it is worth it. In terms of noise you need to put your ear up to it in order to hear it. Airflow is not as good as the louder fan but it pushes a impressive amount of air for the noise it outputs. If you are going for a quiet fan this is the one to get, if you want the most amount of airflow for a noise level this is not the one. Because this fan is so quiet I would recommend a fan with a higher dBA rating for more airflow. I good middle ground would be a fan around 20-30dBA.

This replaces an earlier model, which lasted for almost 3 years and was always very quiet.

This replacement unit is as quiet, but has a 3-position speed range selector. Of course, it can be speed-controlled by firmware on your computer motherboard/BIOS, but the range selector gives better control. I highly recommend this.

I don't know if the ability to take the blades out and wash them is going to be that important that I like it. It seems quite durable and doesn't make excessive noise while moving the air. I think it is going to last.

These Magma fans are a little more expensive then most others, but I think they are well worth the price. I've been using two of these for over a year with no problems at all. I recently added a third Magma fan when I built my new Win 7 machine using my existing case. My new rig has three 12 cm Magma fans, a Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H50 All in One High-performance CPU Cooler CWCH50-1, and a Corsair CMPSU-550VX 550-Watt VX Series 80 Plus Certified Power Supply compatible with Core i7 and Core i5. Even with all these fans running the whole PC is very quiet. If you're looking for a reliable, quiet and stylish looking fan I highly recommend these Magmas.
