He evolved from a young and fiercely patriotic officer in the Anglo Boer War, where he earned the title of The Black Panther, to a shrewd and gifted espionage agent for the Nazi Intelligence Service.
He did not forgive and was relentless in pursuing his brutal retribution. He became one of the world's most talented and elusive spies.
In this subjective biography, based on a true story, you will get to know Frederick Duquesne. From war hero to a disgraced and displaced old man – this is his story.

About the author

I'm Paula Hewitt.
I was born on the beautiful island of Tasmania at the bottom of the continent of Australia. I attended a private girls school in Launceston where my love of writing evolved. Tasmania has a diverse environment and ecology and although I visit often, there are always surprises to be found and the spectacular scenery ranks as some of the best in the world. I now live in Queensland, having settled in sunny Brisbane.
My latest book release, ‘Van Diemen Switch’ is a journey back to my place of birth, with a mix of actual events, historical fiction and a hefty dollop of humour.
My book 'A Magnificent Lie' is a deviation from my normal style of writing; this book is a true spy story, a sometimes speculative biography about the astonishing life of real-life Boer War hero turned Nazi espionage agent - Frederick Joubert Duquesne. It will take you on an almost unbelievable journey through wartime history. I have also written two fictional series on life in and around Kruger National Park in South Africa.
Please take the time to pick up a book and travel into the magical world of reading, whether it be for fact or fantasy!

Paula Hewitt has skillfully researched, then penned the life of this intriguing Boar War and Great War soldier
Paula's genuine love of South Africa as was Fritz's enables her to take the reader behind the scenes and into the Life of this extremely dangerous, lethal, deadly , charming, flamboyant character Fritz Joubert Dusquesne.
Paula has created a somewhat challenging, but most entertaining read that leaves you to determine whether Fritz should be lourded as a hero with an unduying love of his family, lifestyle and South Africa or was he a misguided, double dealing, womanising, highly intelligent scoundrel who utilized his handsome looks and highest level influential contacts to live the high life, bed whomever he desired and enjoy the trappings of an outstandingly successful double agent and ruthless warrior.
This book is a must read and just in time for the Christmas break.
Buy a copy for yourself and give a copy to your friends and relatives.
You and they will not be disappointed.
Top effort Paula Hewitt, congratulations clever lady!!!
This has all the hallmarks of movie or a TV mini series.
