PILOT: Seven men unite to save a Seminole Indian village from The Ghosts of the Confederacy, a group of renegade soldiers threatening complete annihilation. The Seven courageously defend the village from the pillaging soldiers in this electrifying series premiere. ONE DAY OUT WEST: J.D. (Andrew Kavovit) volunteers to serve as a sheriff when a Federal Judge comes to clean up the town, and Judge Travis enlists the Seven to protect it. WORKING GIRLS: The town takes in a group of 'working girls' escaping from their vengeful master. SAFECRACKER: An ex-safecracker traveling through town is forced to return to her nefarious ways by an adamant ex-partner. WITNESS: Mary's (Laurie Holden) young son visits, only to be haunted by his memories of a rogue townsperson. Erza's (Anthony Starke) con-artist mother comes into town. NEMESIS: Chris pursues the man he believes is responsible for the murder of his wife and sons. The rest of the seven try their best to keep Chris from doing something he might regret. A reporter follows the men around to get a story. THE COLLECTOR: The Seven get involved when a "collector," Guy Royal, attempts to buy a string of homes: the future home of the railroad. Royal's hired gun has a bone to pick with Chris over an incident many years back. Josiah (Ron Perlman) is excited with his former love, saloon singer Emma comes to town. MANHUNT: Vin takes the lead in a manhunt to catch an escaped prisoner who took a local woman hostage. The girl's father, the local preacher, seeks vengeance. INMATE 78: Chris is arrested and thrown into a gulag-type prison camp while intervening in the arrest of an innocent man. He's subsequently informed that the sheriff identifies drifters who look like they have money, and arrests them on trumped-up charges until their families pay the bail. Vin, Ezra and the boys search for Chris when he doesn't return.

My wife who is not a fan of Westerns usually also really likes The Magnificent Seven. The story lines are great and all cast members do a great job in their respective roles. We liked Series 1 so much that we immediately ordered Series 2 and are enjoying watching it at the moment.
Highly recommended for fans of not only Westerns but good well scripted television.
I'm sorry that I didn't check this out when it was originally broadcast. There's so much crap on TV that gems like this unfortunately short - run series often slip by and off into wherever uderappreciated TV series go to. I'd like to personally thank the powers-that-be that got these cherished episodes out on DVD and out at a decent price! Everyone I've shown the show to has become a fan!
Well it was well worth the purchase! All the actors are great and have been perfectly cast into their roles. I loved the mix of humour, tension and action. I found that I ended up watching at least 2 or 3 episodes per sitting to see how the longer story arcs (which I won't give away) would progress. Each of the characters have been created as 3 dimensional people, with strengths and weaknesses. No one is all good or all bad (except maybe the "baddies" :-) Actually the show reminds me of another great tv-series western - Young Riders, only with adults instead of teenagers.
The only disappointing aspect of the box set is that there are no extras, however can't complain too much, since they did keep the price low.
I can't believe that they axed such a promising show, although from other reviewers' comments it looks like there was at least a season 2? Can't wait to buy it as well :-)
Anyway, if you are a fan of westerns (or even shows like Firefly which I guess is a sci-fi western), then you might want to give this one a go.
I agree with all the information the previous reviewer supplied, and I too hope that the site is corrected soon. I did send an email directly to Amazon concerning the misinformation, so hopefully it reaches the right person to get things fixed. I would love to pre-order the set, but not until everything is corrected, so I know for certain I am going to be sent the right item. The release date and title are the only correct things to go by for this item at this time.

Personally I'm particularly fond of the character of Vin Tanner, played by Eric Close. An ex-bounty hunter, ex-buffalo hunter, ex-tracker, who has lived with Comanche and Kiowa and adopted many of their ways, on the run from the law from a murder he didn't commit - he's laid-back, laconic, self-possessed, respectful, with a snarky sense of humour and a sawn-off shotgun always in his hand, and an absolute joy to watch.
The sights and sounds and smells of the frontier are brought wonderfully to life here, and every one of the characters is a joy to watch. It's a fantastic ensemble cast, rounded out by guest appearances from Robert Vaughn himself as a frontier judge. The show deals with many traditional issues from the Old West - the conflict between homesteaders and cowboys, the discovery of gold, the treatment of women and prostitutes, the casual brutality and violence. I'm only sorry this series is so short.
Just a shame that there is only 2 seasons of this......light-hearted entertainment, with some comic moments usually from the character of Ezra (best character in it!). If you are looking for something easy to watch, were the good guys beat the bad guys then you can't go too wrong with this.
