Magnifying Glass: The First of the Father's Adolescent Series Paperback – November 17, 2016

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 27 ratings

This “quickbook” is titled “Magnifying Glass” because it’s an analysis of the text in Lk 2:40-52: authorship, source, context, structure, literary genre, historicity, and realism of the passage. It's the first quickbook in the Father's Adolescent Series. This theme is a challenge for the average reader. But it’s necessary. It provides a foundation for subsequent reflections. It answers these questions:•Are we sure Luke wrote these verses?•Where did he get this information from?•How did he structure this passage?•What was he trying to communicate?•Do we have other episodes from Jesus’ youth?•Why did he choose this passage over others?•Did this episode really happen? Is it historical?•How much do we really understand what actually happened?•…and more.

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. When I was just six, my family immigrated to the United States. I'm the oldest of three boys. I grew up in Miami, FL, lived in France for one year, and finished high school in Tulsa, OK.

I enjoyed playing soccer and ice hockey for my high school. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma.

I got involved in the university youth ministry. I discerned God’s calling to the priesthood throughout college. I visited a summer program for a congregation called the Legion of Christ in 2003. After finishing my last year of studies I entered the Legion of Christ seminary in Cheshire in September 2004. From 2004 to 2007 I completed two years of novitiate and a year of liberal arts studies. Then I completed my philosophy degree in 2009.

In October 2009, I went to Dallas-Ft. Worth, TX, as a youth director. I worked to establish a network of youth clubs, retreats, and summer camps known as “DFW Conquest”. I also attended a two-week intensive course on youth mentoring at the University of Francisco Vitoria in Madrid. I finished a fourth year assisting the Legion of Christ youth ministry in Chicago as the director of a program for college students to dedicate a year to ministry within the Church.

I went to Rome in 2013 to study theology for three years. I obtained my degree in Theology in 2016 from the Regina Apostolorum Pontifical University. During his studies, I placed a lot of emphasis on my Scripture studies.

I was ordained a deacon on May 14, 2016. I was ordained a priest on December 10, 2016. From June 26, 2016 to Sept. 2022, I served as the Legion of Christ adolescent youth ministry director in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and director of Camp River Ridge, a Catholic campsite in Indiana. From Sept 19, 2022 to Sept 1, 2023, I served as an Associate Pastor in the Diocese of Tulsa, OK. As of Sept 2023, I am studying a license in spiritual theology in Rome, Italy.

This is a wonderful series about the child Jesus at age twelve traveling to His first Passover. Since there is not much written about His childhood, the easy to read books give so much information about the historical and religious life and times of the young Jesus.

Fr Boccaccino is a well versed scriptural scholar bringing life from 2000 years ago to the forefront. His historical knowledge ties to biblical scripture developing a full view of missing materials.

This series would make a terrific gift for students from ages 10 to 80 who would like to learn more about Jesus in a very interesting and thought provoking way.

Fr. Boccacci writes a compelling book that is easy to read and a short book. The Adolescent Series of Jesus's life is a unique way at looking at Christ's life vs. other works I have read. It does not read as a school text book or a bible study manual but as a captivating and well-researched story. My teenage son has also enjoyed the book.
