The adhesive back will not stick to wood, hardboard, steel, aluminum or glass. Those are the materials I tried. Ample evidence it will adhere to nothing.
I don't like hyperbole, but in this case, I can't avoid it. THIS PRODUCT IS ABSOLUTELY USELESS! DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM FROM THIS VENDOR.
I bought it so i could have a flexible magnetic option to use when putting tools and such in various places in the shop. Bad idea. 2 strips of this can't even hold a small hex wrench. a medium sized one wouldn't stay up with even 5 strips of this set up to hold it in place. Keep in mind that this was on a horizontal plane (the side of my bandsaw), and I wanted to attach the magnetic strips to hold a small set of Hex wrenches that came with the saw. This won't do it. a single strip doesn't even have the power to hold a few screws.
The only purpose I could see this stuff being useful for is to hold very light objects that have a large surface area (like whiteboard erasers or something along those lines). I could see a use in that cirucumstance, or perhaps on a vertical surface to simply keep metal things from rolling around. the magnets simply suck for anything heavier then a few feathers, and the sitcky tape on the backside started falling off my bandsaw under it's own weight after about 15m. I was suprised when i saw the price for a whole roll of this stuff, and now I understand why. it's only a 10 spot, but its a 10 spot that you could spend more wisely somewhere else.
Me? I'm going to actually go with magnetic bars that were really designed to hold tools. they're 2x to 3x the price, but if they work, they'll be worth it. this isn't.
EDIT: I decided to experiment with this a little bit more and decided to line the inside of my entire artbin with this tape. Then since I had already glued on magnetic tape on my eyeshadow singles, I decided to pop it in the lined artbin and it WORKED SO WELL. This magnetic tape sticks well to itself, but make sure that when you put magnetic tape on your eyeshadow singles, to put it on the same direction as the art bin, so like a vertical strip goes on top of a vertical strip of magnetic tape. If you put a vertical strip on a horizontal strip, then the attraction of both magnets is very weak, even though it could still work.
Tldr: this magnetic tape could work for eyeshadow singles and depotting if you have time to play around with the tape and see how it works for your DIY z palette or whatever you want to stick your eyeshadows in.
- Adhesive backing is not sticky!
- Magnet is super weak!
- Will NOT hold a small piece of paper to fridge door!
- Adhesive backing and magnet cannot even hold the curled shape!
Instructions on how to use:
- Buy it, open packaging, place inside trash, waste $10 bucks, BOOM!! You have successfully used this product.
Problems with this product:
1- The adhesive backing is so weak it won't even support the weight of the "magnetic" strip, let alone anything you would want the magnet to hold.
2- The magnet is so weak that it won't hold the weight of a second magnetic strip...
