The sights themselves are awesome. Very well made of black steel. They ooze quality for which I am grateful. They fit my picatinny rail perfectly. a They appeared to have a drop of red Loctite from the factory to prevent them from loosening. I mounted them easily. The sights can be torqued down with either a slotted screw or Allen key. Since they are made of steel there is no issue with mounting them over a gas block rail. No melting worries here.
I found the adjustments on both back and front to be very positive. I had no issues with the front post as some others had indicated. The adjustments click positively to let you know you have moved the respective sight. They flip up and down very well and feel rock solid when flipped up. Appearance wise, they are very slim and look great. In the stowed position they lie very flat and are not obtrusive.
I have a Vortex Sparc II red dot sight on my AR15 and the sight picture was very close out of the box. Mine is set up for an absolute co-witness and the windage was right on the money on the rear. The front sight was just a few clicks too tall. In just a couple of minutes I had the Magpuls in agreement with the Sparc II.
The rear also comes with dual apertures, easily flipped to a close-in or lowlight aperture (larger) or a long distance aperture (smaller).
All in all I am super pleased with these sights. They exceeded my expectations and I expect they will provide many years of great service.
They are pricey but compared to other sights not bad at all ... but the BIG plus on these is how slim they are .. I like not having bulky sights on my AR ... just looks cleaner to me.
I've attached a couple pictures showing how a regular full size set of MBUS polymer sights looks as compared to these slim steel MBUS sights
Picture shows the rear sights next to each other while up and the other pic have them down ... big difference in size
I have also attached a pic of them on my upper.....
Solidly flips up/down in Place
2-setting Rear Aperture
Not much to say. This is really the standard for BUIS. They did arrive with a bit of excess oil...
Pricey set, but they work fine. Some may not like the fact that, though they flip up and click into place, it doesn't lock (Midwest Industries Front Sight) or spring (GEN2 MBUS) to hold it in the up position. Locking in position adds extra size and weight, however, it's probably negligible for something with this purpose. A liner lock (think CRKT knives) would probably work. Midwest Industries has front sight that locks similarly using a take-down pin. Just some ideas.
These would work well with a red dot or acog, but not with a scope. Before buying, make sure you understand the purpose of use for your rifle. Magpul also makes offset BUIS. They are the same as this set, with added material to offset at 45 degrees to the right of the top rail.
The rear sight fits perfectly over and blends as to not obstruct the charging handle. Very minimal signature when in the down position for both the front and rear.
The rear sight is great on small but when flipped to the larger opening I almost always get glare from just being in sunlight, even facing away from the sun. Even indoors the rear sight glares slightly which I HATE and is the main reason for the three stars. The reason I have these and not the plastic MBUS(which do not glare) is because this rear sight is low profile while folded and allows my scope to mount over it.
