Product Description

Mahjong Butterfly is a Mahjong tile matching game with a strategic goal larger than just clearing the board.

You goal is to collect caterpillars and help them transform into beautiful butterflies. To accomplish this, you must match the correct kinds of tiles to get caterpillars, and then continue making the right matches to feed your caterpillars and help them grow.

To help you achieve this goal, Mahjong Butterfly offers you the ability to take and hold a tile in reserve, allowing you access to a previously inaccessible tile without having to remove a valuable piece you want to play later. As you collect butterflies through the 47 different games, you gain more entries in your collection of butterflies; a nice reference that shows you more about the butterflies you've raised.

If you are ready for a more engaging Mahjong experience, then take some time to play with butterflies!

The only reason I would want a Kindle with a color screen would be for this app. There is a tutorial which takes you through Level one. Please, read all of the Help pages first. There are two ways to get around the tiles. You can use the four way directional and enter pad or eight directional letter keys, qwe,ad, zxc, with s as the enter key. Using the letter keys is a better way to move around, especially for a lefty. The app uses a totally different tile set and it takes some getting use to. The flowers have to match exactly and in monochrome its a little difficult at first. The other suits are leaf and honey dew which are food for the caterpillars. You still are looking for identical pairs of tiles to remove but in this version you have three free cells to store 3 tiles. When a caterpillar is fed enough, it makes a cocoon. Remove the pair of tiles that are suns and out pops the butterfly. So you don't want to remove the suns until you have at least one cocoon. Hence the reason for the freecells. There are also wind tiles, they are bad tiles, take away life points from caterpillars. So you don't want to remove them until all other pairs are removed. I think I am going to love this app.

I am just loving this game. I don't have much time for gaming but this is a real gem of a game, and I can get a level played in short time. The butterflies are a great addition to an old game, it is simple to play, works along the same rules with a few added extras. Basically you match tiles to clear the playing board for each level, but in this game you have three holding spaces (bottom right of screen) so you can pick up more tiles to match. Look for the little caterpillars matches to build into butterflies, each caterpillar will need some feeding to turn into a butterfly, you can hold onto three caterpillars (bottom left of the screen) and choose which one to feed as you gather matched tiles on the playing board. Once you feed up your caterpillars you select the sun tiles to grow them into butterflies. Each butterfly is then added to your encyclopedia of collected butterflies. Beware of the wind tiles as you are playing, the wind tiles take a life away from your growing caterpillars and will take away your cocoons. You can also look through the encyclopedia to see all butterflies and information about each. This game is a great addition to my Kindle.

I've had this game for a couple of weeks now, and have played through all the levels multiple times. I love Mah Jong and enjoy playing, but I keep getting the same types of butterflies over and over. It would be much more fun if I could actually make progress on my collection, the goal is supposed to be collecting all the types, but that doesn't seem to be possible.

I love this game and was disappointed to eventually learn that no matter what I did I kept collecting the same butterflies over and over and over again. I emailed the gamemaker, Namco, and they were most prompt in replying that they were aware of the problem and were working on an upgrade and it would be a few weeks before it was ready. I waited a few weeks (5 to be exact) and emailed again and was told that it would be 2-3 more weeks and then they had to get Amazon to offer the upgrade to consumers, blah, blah, blah. It's a shame! The game is really fun. But, one wants to reach the goal of collecting all of the butterflies in 50 different species. Who doesn't want to try to reach their goals -- even butterflies!

My wife is the all time great at this game and she loves it. As I bought it for her I think it will work. I did not even play it before I gave it to her. Still after her great raves about it I think they have a winner,

Thanks folks

I am addicted to this game and play it all the time. The only negative thing about it is that it is impossible to collect all the butterflies in the encyclopedia. I wish there was a way we could select the butterflies that we are missing. Instead, I keep collecting more and more of the same butterflies. My score is over 40,000 and I kept thinking maybe getting higher scores would give me the opportunity to select the missing butterflies, but no. There's not even an option to find out how to do this. Still, it's a fun game and good for the brain, I think

I am really hooked on Mahjong, especially the Mahjong Butterful game I downloaded on my Kindle. It is so much fun to play and each level increases in difficulty. The flower tiles are a little hard to distinguish, but with practice you can tell the difference. This game is addictive, but I love it. I wish I had a color Kindle for this game. I certainly recommend this game for any Mahjong lover.
