However, author, Ruth Cardello's characters are so one dimensional and formulaic, I just don't see why anyone would continue the series. This is like romance lite. She rushes the storyline in what appears to be an effort to get to the end of the book as soon as possible. No chance of actually developing the characters beyond the stereotype of obnoxious billionaire meets good girl who changes him and turns him into a nice guy in less than a week.
Unlike other reviewers, I didn't have a problem with certain plot points that seem too contrived. This is romance literature and fantasy is part of the genre. Sometimes you just have to go along with the contrivances. So yeah, Abby knew a little conversational Mandarin, that's fine. She did teach English to foreign speakers. I thought that was explained. And I didn't have a problem with her going off with Dominic after only knowing him one day (hate to tell you all this but I travelled cross country with a guy I had only known one day and he ended up being my boyfriend for 9 years.) What I did not like was the lovey dovey everybody around us seems to sense we are falling in love even though they only met Abby 5 minutes ago. And the warm and squishy ending was kind of pukey (okay, I know that's not a word, but it did make me feel like puking.)
Finally, if this is romance lite, it is definitely erotic romance lite. Look, you have to provide more than cliches if you want to write erotic romances. Those were about the most boring sex scenes I've ever read. Is that it? And he wants to marry her? Where's the fire? Not in their lovemaking, that's for sure.
Dominic was my favorite type of hero.. Bossy, take charge and tender when it counted. So possessive he didn't want Abby out of his sight. Abby was brave, loyal and absolutely the perfect fit to this headstrong man.
I absolutely am going to be binge reading. I need these type stories.. Maybe I'm getting older who knows but all the unnecessary and gross drama that even the side characters get involved in some of the newer books detract from my pleasure. I'm just a old fashioned girl who misses her mom's steamy books I used to sneak and devour. This just fit that bill perfectly.
On to the next one.
