Reason for use: After many miserable years of messy heavy periods, I was finally very happy to find my Always Infinity foam pads, but I wasn't happy about their cost or the occasional irritation they caused. I vowed to try reusable pads because at $17 for 5, I wasn't going to regret it if I discarded them and went back to Always pads, and if the reusables worked out, I'd be saving hundreds of dollars a year and reducing waste. To adopt the reusable pads permanently, they had to perform at least as well as my Always foam pads meaning: 1) they had to stay in place and save my panties from disaster; 2) they had to feel light and not bulky; 3) they had to be breathable; 4) above all, they had to be absorbent. One cycle later, I am very happy with the LoveMy reusable pads and won't be buying Always for my period anymore.
LoveMy: Fit: The medium was a good length for my size16 body (reached from front of pelvic bone to just past anus) but they did tend to slide backwards unless I wore spanx-like high waisted panties. The patterns are cute and snap crotch easy to place before pulling panties on. The purple ones slid back least but that may have been due to adopting tighter panties. Once you accept that nothing stays in place like an adhesive back does, it's easy to accept wearing tighter (still comfortable) panties to compensate, because in other areas, the LoveMys surpassed Always. So light I forgot I was wearing them, and so breathable I never felt hot or sticky during my period, whereas that was a regular occurrence with Always.
Period Absorbency: Excellent!!! Surface stays surprisingly dry. Pulls everything down and keeps in center of pad (panties were spotless after 8 hr sleep). Absorbs clots in their near entirety. Slept through the night turning on back and belly with no leaks, not even on the wing. No odor AT ALL which surprised me, because my Always pads, while super absorbent, smelled awful after wear, and occasionally still leaked at night, and irritated my skin after a while. Very pleased the LoveMy did not smell after 8 hrs of wear. After 8 hours on 1st day of my typically heavy period, pad looked like about 2/3 of it hadn't even been reached by any blood yet. It absorbs quickly, too. I woke up to the feeling of passing a huge clot that I thought for sure would cause a leak, but by the time I walked to the bathroom, I could barely see its outline on the pad surface. And when I wiped, there was next to nothing on my skin, whereas there would have been with Always.
Urine: Holds a fair amount (a leak and then some) but less comfortable on surface; your panties won't be wet but your crotch will feel wet. Would not recommend for this purpose. Felt hot and uncomfortable after leak, and definitely had an odor, though it provides better protection to your clothes than nothing at all. A little bit leaked off the front pad edge onto my panty, again because unless you wear really tight panties, it tends to slide back a little too far. Maybe all my panties are just too big on me. I guess you could bring a spare pad to swap into after a leak, but haven't yet figured out what to do with the used one if I'm out and about.
Portability/Price: I like that they all come inside a big a yellow carrying case: they are easy to store, locate, and travel with. I do wish they came with individual wrappers so I could take a spare pad in my purse. They do fold up but I'd prefer an extra protective layer to carry them around in. Right now I wear one all day and change it when I get home to sleep through the night and replace in the morning , which means 4-5 pads get me safely through 48 hours of menstruating--halfway through my period. Since I wash them as I go and they dry overnight, I don't run out. I end up washing about one in the morning and one at night. With Always pads I needed to change them every 4-6 hours which meant I always needed 3 or 4 Always in my purse, so the LoveMys paid for themselves in one cycle.
Cleanup: They arrived sealed so I wore them out of the bag first use. After use I rinsed under cold water about 1 min to lift out the blood inside, then folded vertically (whites on the inside), and squeezed from top to bottom to wring it out. Did this until it wrung out clear, about 3 times. Then I put some peroxide on it to lift out the stain my giant clot left behind. Waited one minute, then rinsed/wrung out again. Finally sprayed some Shout stain remover on the spot, waited 5 min, then rubbed the front and back surface of the pad together to lather up. Rinsed and wrung out one more time. Stain was 95% gone. Laid it on counter to dry (dries overnight). I plan on wearing these as a back-up to my tampons/menstrual cup during the day and wearing these exclusively at night.
All in all: a cheaper, equally comfortable long term solution to replacing disposable pads. Takes about 12 minutes a day to clean them in a manner that minimizes staining, but it you don't care about staining, just rinse and wring them once and toss them in with your laundry.
Wish they came in a 7 pack so I wouldn't have to wash them so frequently to get through a cycle, but I am pleased that I don't have to spend $12-$20 a month anymore. Even if the LoveMys last only a year (but surely longer) it will have been worth it! Just as light and absorbent, more breathable, with no irritation compared to disposable pads. Happy girl over here.
I had been on the fence about buying cloth pads, but I finally decided to take the plunge. These are amazing!! Unlike the disposable pads, they don't crinkle up or have adhesive that might lay wring on the underwear. Super comfortable I forget completely that I am wearing them. Bring a ziploc bag in your wet bag to keep the clean seperate from the used if you are out and about. I spritz on some Shout! and then let it sit for a few minutes, then launder as normal with my underwear or towels.
These were my first cloth pads and so far they are doing great. I got the middle size. The fabric is very study and the pads themselves are super absorbent, able to handle a fairly heavy flow without leaking.
What I'm most happy about is the fabric used on the flaps and outside. I have sensitive skin which sounds nice in theory, but in practice it means I can (and often do) give myself an evil rash in a delicate place if I'm not mindful. As you can imagine, disposable pads leave me waddling like a giant mutant duck before too long. Not so with these pads!
A few caveats: not all of these pads have the same texture on the exterior fabric. Half of them have a kind of slippery nylon-type exterior that doesn't stay put unless you're wearing underwear that will hold it in place like briefs. Bad news for people who like boyshorts. Also, the wet dry bag that comes with the pads is Not Subtle. The one I received is big and banana yellow, which is a problem since I have to walk across a factory floor to get to the bathroom from my office during the with week. It is DEFINITELY not a discrete little bag you can carry a fresh pad to the bathroom in and carry away the old one without drawing notice. Actually, I think it might have been made with diapers in mind since the company also makes cloth diapers. That's great for moms, but lessqco-workers that are attracted to bright colors.
disappointed. Of the 6 that came, only 2 are soft. The other feel like a rough nylon material. But, they cost 1/4 of the cost I spent on the local hand made 100% cotton ones. Despite that. I think when I'm ready for more I'll stick to those ones I know are soft, and these aren't it.
These are great. They are long enough to cover all of your underpants, absorbent enough for a light to medium period (don't have heavy so can't say), and are very comfortable. Way more comfortable than regular pads. I can work all day on my feet with no spillage and only needed to change 2-3 times during work. They did not slip out of place and I really liked the terry-cloth like material that is used in these. Will certainly buy these again when mine wear out.
These are the first reusable pads I have ever used. I wish I would have found them sooner!! I am sensitive to the chemicals in the store bought pads and the organic pads (which I love) are so expensive!! I have been using these for about 5 months and so far, I have no complaints. After wearing, I rinse them, then throw them in the wash with everything else. They clean up very nice. I will be investing in more only because during this week, I have to keep doing laundry to make sure I have enough clean. Since I have started using these, I have saved a lot of money. If I had to list some cons they would be; It seems like when you are wearing underwear that have a smaller strip of cloth, the pad slides a little. It's a very easy problem to solve though! Also when you are traveling, it's a little harder to use these. I have usually opted for disposables, when I'm going to be away from my house more than 12 hours. These are a great value for the money and I highly recommend them!!
