If you enjoy the pop era from which these songs were culled you'll enjoy this set. There are some priceless moments here - Hoagy Carmichael's "Huggin' and Chalkin'", Mel Blanc singing "Woody Woodpecker", Dorothy Shay's "Feudin', A-Fussin' and A-Fightin'", the utter strangeness of "The Hut Sut Song" (the "Inna Gadda Da Vida" of the '50s?), the hit version of "Three Little Fishies", and the irrepressible Phil Harris (the voice of Disney's Baloo in "Jungle Book" and Thomas O'Malley Cat in "The Aristocats") with "The Thing". Let's not forget that delirious ode to 1950s homemakers, the over the top "If I Knew You Were Comin' I'd've Baked A Cake". Perhaps that song topped the charts for ten weeks due to Eileen Barton's gleeful delivery; you can't help but think she had a cake in the oven when she recorded this.

Not all of these are really novelty songs. Only about half might qualify for airtime on the Dr. Demento show, but the sound is good and as far as I can tell, no alternate versions/re-recordings/live re-recordings are being substituted. However, not all songs are by the artists most associated with the tune; e.g. instead of Al Dexter, it's Bing Crosby singing "Pistol Packin' Mama", "I'm My Own Grandpa" is done by Guy Lombardo, and somehow Danny Kaye is the performer of choice for "I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts". Frankly, a small portion of this collection is just garbage, with the obnoxious singalongs of Art Mooney or the utterly artless "Cruising Down the River" fighting for disk space with the Sammy Kaye Orchestra.

Although the setlist isn't perfect, its best songs are hard to find otherwise, and even the regular pop songs like "Rag Mop" and "Doctor, Lawyer, Indian Chief" are just fun to have around. If I didn't already own this I'd buy it again.

great for creating fun with people who can remember those days......original artist recordings make this a special collection. It's rare...I've been searching for such a collection, and this is the only one I could find.

I had these audio cassettes growing up, and they are just as amazing on CD!!! The only complaints my friends have about these songs is how catchy they are, so I count it as a win! It has the original feel of the older styles, so it is clear it has not been remastered (but I wouldn't want that anyways!).

If you listened to these songs in their previous forms, or you just like wacky songs to sing/hum/whistle throughout your day, then this is a must have!

Great family funnies, which we played in the car on family vacations on the road. These are songs from 'yesterday', hokie, odd and downright hysterical at times: "I'm My Own Grandpa", "If I'd Known You Were Coming, I'd Have Baked a Cake", "Too Fat Polka", just to name a few! Enjoy!

Mairzy Doats is a variety of golden oldies sung by a variety of groups. It is nostalgic entertainment at its best.

I had this CD set 15 years ago but played it so much that I ruined it. So I came to Amazon looking to replace it. Well, I found what I THOUGHT was the two-disc set for $26,00 or so, and since this was a reasonable price for a USED double set of CDs I bought it. I was majorly shocked and disappointed (trust me when I say I cleaned that up a lot from what I RALLY feel) when my order arrived to find that I had paid $26.00 for ONE DISC. Can you say RIPOFF?
