I picked up the game on sale so I wasn't expecting too much for such an inexpensive purchase (never played the first one). However, this is the first game I have played all the way through the campaign in a long time.

I know this game has been compared a lot to Warcraft, Age of Empires, Starcraft and the like (which I have all played) but in my opinion it is in its own little niche. It is an RTS but the inability to issue direct commands makes for some really interesting game play. I found it to be very entertaining trying to decide how much to pay my heroes in order to accomplish tasks versus saving the money to buy upgrades or new heroes. Overall, I found it to be a very original idea.

I did not find the difficulty to be too challenging but neither did I find it to be simple. Generally I was able to pass the missions on my first try though a few I did have to restart once. Usually, once you find a good defensive mix of units you can survive long enough to build up and win. There did not appear to be a huge amount of viable strategies but there was definitely more than one path you could choose.

Overall, the game was fun, the graphics were pretty good (not award winning but didn't make my eyes bleed or anything), and the sound was amusing and didn't get repetitive enough to be annoying. With about 1 hour of play per campaign mission there was good 20 hours of game play plus the non-campaign scenarios. Well worth it if you can get a good deal on price.

This is a great game, but the download here is incompatible with the expansion downloads from Gamersgate. Obviously I bought all of these, the game and the expansions years ago. I lost the disk for the game, so I bought this download. I downloaded it and it ran fine, but when I downloaded the second expansion from gamersgate and installed it, everything stopped working. It says that the content was corrupted and I should reinstall the game. So I downloaded this again, and reinstalled it, and it gives me the same message, content corrupted, reinstall. So, nothing works. Now this is probably caused by the peeps at Majesty2 or something, but there seems to be no way to post a technical problem except to scream about it in a review. So here it is.

The product downloaded fine. Everything seems to work albeit, slowly. My processor speed is the culprit, not the game itself. The game itself is very difficult to master. I cannot find a difficulty setting so I am limited on how long I can play the game.

A review for people who played Majesty 1:

Majesty 1 was too short. The strategies were simple. When fighting the Elves in Majesty 1, the strategy was to build two guilds full of paladins. No other construction projects killed elves faster or easier. So while watching your tiny town of five buildings, grab some cookies and Pepsi and the game would literally beat itself for you ten game days later. Here's the new difficulty of Majesty 2:

1. There isn't a 3rd tax collector when you build three inns like in Majesty 1.
2. There isn't an elf casino that won half your games in Majesty 1.
3. The trading posts don't give double or triple gold with level 2 or 3 (respectively) Marketplaces like Majesty 1.

Bottom line, this game is hard! But certainly playable. Think of the Scions of Darkness campaign (the first one you play in the Majesty 1 expansion) where there's a lot of luck involved, and if you don't have it you lose. The quests in Majesty 1 took me max 40 days or 50 game days in the expansion. Don't frown if Majesty 2 quests take a 100 game days.

But you know what? Nobody is judging anyone who took 100 days to beat a quest. Enjoy the game because it's longer. These reviewers think this game is impossible when they've only played half the game. Actually, the difficulty recommendations are random, and most expert quests are easier than advanced or sometimes beginner. Get through the annoying 2-3 quests and you'll have a ball.

This was more than worth the money! I've played quite a few of these games -- the game play is similar to Age of Empires, Warcraft, and various other games where you are required to build structures, create armies and grow a thriving kingdom. The graphics are excellent, and the game play is stimulating and a little challenging. Even if you don't have experience with this gameplay format it's fairly instinctual and the tutorial round is easy to follow without being condescending. The AI is well-balanced -- attacks from enemies can be rough but are manageable and realistic.

You basically go around the fantasy world building different kingdoms, each one requiring a different goal. Things get tougher as you go along, and you've got to invest your assets wisely in order to succeed.

The GOOD:

- The graphics are really awesome. Very fluid with incredible detail and the game camera is incredibly quick and responsive.

- Attainable quests, each one building on the skills you learned during the previous build.

- Fast loading, no problems with install.

- Big game, and with the expansion packs you'll be playing it for awhile.

- Apparently the game has a wi-fi multi-player setting which I haven't experimented with yet.

The BAD:

- The mouse cursor is sometimes not extremely accurate in placement

- The sounds/phrases the villagers say during the gameplay get a little annoying and repetitive pretty fast. I found the "Mute" button to be pretty vital after an hour or so of play.

- The gameplay is pretty consistent, so if you don't like building things, training soldiers and fighting off the zombie attacks on your kingdom you better look elsewhere.
