From Library Journal

Miniature teddy bears standing only three inches high are a recent entry in the world of collectible stuffed toys. They are made, exhibited, and sold in a relatively closed world of aficionados and command prices that seem astounding to outsiders. Kesling, a professional bear-maker, creates her own designs and devises original techniques for solving construction problems that come with miniaturization. In this delightful book, she has ten fully illustrated, step-by-step projects for bears and one bunny, along with information on going into business as a bear-maker.

About the Author

Debbie Kesling began making bears in 1983. Her work has been featured on the cover of Teddy Bear Review magazine and in many other books and periodicals. She has also been awarded a Golden Teddy for her miniature designs. Her instructional video, 'Secrets of Miniature Artistry', has sold thousands of copies worldwide since its 1994 release. Debbie has been honoured to be an artist invited to participate in the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Teddy Bear Conventions. Some of her miniature designs have been produced by 'Little Gems'. As a regular contributor to Teddy Bear and Friend magazine, Debbie writes the 'Cybearspace' Internet column. She was also a contributing writer for The Teddy Bear Sourcebook. Apart from writing and creating teddy bears, Debbie is passionate aviculturist and nature lover. Her parrot behaviour modification techniques have been cited in many reference works, and her articles on endangered cockatoo breeding and behaviour have appeared in several publications. Debbie makes her home in Lambertville, Michigan, with her husband John, her Irish wolfhound Bubba and some feathered friends. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This is the best book on miniature bear making I've encountered. The author leads you thru the easiest to the most difficult with ease. You don't have to buy this book for one or two favorite patterns, all of them will be your favorite. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to make miniatures.

Debbie Kesling's book has given me hope that even I could make a miniature teddy bear. After seeing her work up close, I was certain I could never manage the mastery evident in each bear she creates. During the years I taught crafts, I never ran across a more clearly written how-to book, especially with such detailed photographs and a willingness to share secrets to success learned from years of experience. Her book is typical of her work... precise, well-composed and full of substance.

How to Make Enchanting Miniature Teddy Bears by Debbie Kesling is as perfect a book as the tiny teddies she makes. Just as each bear is executed with thought, planning, and skill, so is this book. The text provides not only an excellent guide to the world of miniature bears, their design, and creation, but is a very enjoyable read. The photos are sharp and detailed and give the user an excellent picture of each step in the process. This book is absolutely number one!

This book is well thought out. Its step by step instruction on Minature Teddy Bear making is the best I have come across. The author starts out with simple teddy making projects and ends with the more difficult projects near the end of the book. It flows perfectly. The information that the author gives is very helpfull information that could otherwise be hard to attain. She is open with her hints and tips on the Art of Minature Teddy Bear making. The photographs and instuction are very clear and easy to follow, very well done. I read it and followed all the projects from begining to end. This book has very valuable information in it to help one make and start their own Teddy Bear bussiness. The book is also a wounderfull for the person who wants to just learn how to make these great little Teddy Bears for themselves. I am impressed! I have read and looked at a number of teddy bear making books. I would have to say that this book tops the chart for content, instruction, information and a feeling of warmth and wounder in the enchanting world of Teddy Bears. Explaining the hows and wherefores of making any kind of craft item is difficult at best. Especially when you have to do it totally in print. But Debbie Kesling has succeeded beautifully. Not only is this book well written with clear explanations, the photos are beautiful. Anyone even mildly interested in the art of miniature bearmaking will find this book enlightening and entertaining. I have been making miniature bears myself for 7 years and learned a thing or two from Debbie's wonderful book.
