Review

"Oh my goodness, this book was fan-freaking-tastic! It's full of suspense, twists and turns, and some hot bedroom scenes. It's a story of long lost love and these types of stories really grasp my heart strings. The author did a phenomenal job writing this story from start to finish!" ~ArchaeolibrarianI Dig Good Books

From the Author

"There's something else going on with you, though."

"How do you know?" I sigh as his mouth trails feather light kisses up and down my neck. The combination of his day old stubble and the whisper of his tongue have me weak in the knees. I grip the edge of the counter top to keep from falling.

"Your eyes, sweetheart. They tell me everything without you having to say a word, they always did. And you not looking into mine is all the proof I need. Tell me. Let me help you."

God, I want this man. Everything about him is perfect for me, but I can't. I'm too afraid of how he'll react. The longer I hold him off,the longer I can prepare myself. I have to talk to my therapist because I don't know if I can lose him when he finds out. I can't lose another person that I love. "Travis, I can't," I reply staring down at the water that is circling around the drain.

"I know, sweetheart. I'll wait as long as it takes. But this..." He grips my shoulders and turns me around, forcing me to look at him as he frames my face with his strong hands. Those eyes that remind me so much of the lake penetrate through me and see more than anyone ever has. "This is nowhere near over." He runs his thumb over my lip and smiles before turning to walk away.

The first time Anna tried to read a romance novel, her hair caught on fire when she leaned over a candle to sneak a peek at her mom’s Harlequin. She thinks being hit on the head with a shirtless Fabio until the smoke cleared is what sparked the flame for her love of romance.

Anna was born in Wisconsin, but currently lives in Texas with her husband and two boys. She writes sexy romance that always has a happy ending and loves bringing characters back for cameos. Less than six degrees of separation connects any of her novels.

When she’s not writing or reading, she’s watching reruns of her favorite romcoms, talking to her dogs and cat like they’re human, eating carbs, or practicing hand lettering.

She loves to hear from readers and can be found on social media as @annabrooksauth everywhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars Travis Parker convinced me that Prince Charming still exists
By Natasha Anne on October 14, 2016
You know it's a good story when you experience heart-clenching moments throughout the book.

Escaping her cousin's graduation party to hang out at her favorite place was the best decision Charlotte made that night, she never expected to meet the man of her dreams, or rescue him from potential drowning, or rebelliously spent a night at his place. Travis used to have aspirations, he wanted to become a firefighter. But after finding out that his high school sweetheart was pregnant, he abandoned his dreams, worked in construction and planned to support his fiance and baby. Life was simple and he was happy - but that all changed when Tammy died. Since then he turned to alcohol for the solution and found himself drunk and wasted with a blonde goddess three years after the anniversary of his baby's death.

Travis and Charlotte's intense chemistry was like watching a bomb waiting to explode. For once, Travis was able to open his heart to love again, but there's only one thing in between them, a lie that threatened to tear them apart. Too bad life wasn't smooth-sailing and soon enough tragedy struck Charlotte's life, she lost both the man she loved. Four years later, Charlotte was only left with the shell of the woman she used to be.

She saved him then, it is his turn to save her now.

I am in love with second chances romance, so after reading the blurb I knew I had to get this book (and it was free on Amazon so I knew it was a sign!). What I did not expect was the immediate pull Brook's words had on me from the first page, to be short, I finished it in one sitting.

I loved that Charlotte and Travis were flawed in their own ways, and miraculously they healed each other bits by bits. What happened to Charlotte was awful and her emotions throughout the book were so vivid, she made me constantly on the verge of tears. It hurts to see how Charlotte's voice turned from a vibrant character into someone who was hopeless and jaded, and it pained to read about how she was taken advantage of.

Despite that, I really loved Travis' patience and understanding towards Charlotte, never once he forced her to reveal her painful secrets and that earned him great cookie points! Not a believer of fairytale romance, Travis Parker convinced me that Prince Charming still exists, in the form of a flawed modern day hero.

Travis/Charlotte romance was great, but my favorite character in the book got to be Charlotte's therapist. Her words of wisdom were so spot on, she also got me thinking about life! I also adore Charlotte's cousins, although I thought they should have more involvement in Charlotte's healing journey.

The only downside of the book was its pace, at times there were some parts of the book that seemed to have moved a tad bit too fast, but the story was well-written and developed that I had no other complaints. I really really really am looking forward to Mary and Brandon's story, I just know it will be filled with waterworks.
