What I don't love about the book is that it is pretty weak on the actual amount of suggestions for breath work/meditations and healthier recipes overall and the ones they have are pretty basic and one's you already probably know and use already if you are someone who has a healthy lifestyle. I thought they could have had more NEW techniques to keep yourself attuned and balanced that were less known....or at least just MORE overall. I was also hoping to have a specific understanding of what each meditation or yoga pose is good for, as I like the way she incorporated that info into her yoga books (which I love and own two of). I also was surprised that she had real sugar deserts and expected some fun alternatives that again, were new to me. Having said that, I kept the book and do use the yoga routines and some of the recipes from time to time.....hence the 3 stars.
I gave this book five stars because I feel its such an empowering and important message. Otherwise, it is a very simple book (and that is actually a good thing). Again, we (as a society) gravitate to the complicated and overly-complex because we believe that is how things must be in order for them to work! If so, wouldn't they be working? Wouldn't we have more happy people with fewer weight issues in this country if that were the truth? So maybe the whole idea of listening to ourselves and learning to trust our intuition is something that is worth investigating.
There is quite a bit of yoga in this book, but again, it fits in with Tara's overall approach of ease and gentleness. There is nothing in-your-face about this book. Its like having a chat with a good friend, and she's telling you what works for her, and if you want to try it, great; if you don't, that's great, too. There is no pressure, no guilt, and a major emphasis placed on (you guessed it!) making your own rules!
The recipes are also simple but definitely nutritious. They are all plant-based and contain simple ingredients and a simple prep process. There is nothing overly complicated here, either: just straight up good food, prepared simply and deliciously. There aren't a ton of recipes, but the ones that are included are so versatile that you could have them a million different ways if you wanted to.
Overall, I'm pretty impressed with this book. Tara's message is desperately needed in this world, and I really gravitated to her gentle, laidback attitude. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.
Tara has a very supportive and loving spirit that uplifts and encourages.
I've tried a few recipes so far and they have been excellent and pretty simple which I like. I already have a list of the next ones I plan on making!
There are several yoga routines included that look great. I admit however, that I am a watch and follow sort of person so I prefer videos. Fortunately I can just jump on over to her YouTube channel where she has tons of free options to follow along with there.
It is excellent that routines are included, but if you happen to be like me, know that there are options.
I didn't think I needed or wanted another recipe or 'diet' book, but I am very happy I changed my mind.
