I happened upon this new read and hate that I completed it so soon. I began reading early and mainly because I was an only child. So I filled my time with words. My aunt had a subscription to Harlequin Romance and would give me her novels to read after she was finished. However, I was beyond delighted when books, with heroines who looked like me, begin to be written! It was a glorious occasion!! Whoopie Goldberg stated that she only believed that she could ever be on tv when she saw Diahann Carroll playing the role of Julie many moons ago. Hollywood does not celebrate the Black woman in substantial amounts. So how will little Black girls see themselves as loveable/accepted? Hats off to writers of Black Love!
It was a different story for Nia. The Lover was also a single book and I still love it!! I loved Colton & Sam. I was angry, perplexed, laughing and smiling with this book. The characters were fantastic and the storyline superb! I didn't care to much for the sister at first & I would've liked to have known more about what Tiffany decided.
This is the first book that I've read by this author with a good amount of grammatical errors. I was surprised there.
I LOVED it!!!
This is my first time being very underwhelmed by this author. I have no desire to stop reading any of her future books because she has written some absolutely wonderful stories but I could do with never reading this again.
They both made missteps and although I tried not to be too hard on Sam, it was her ambivalence, holding back, hypocrisy (Drew) that made me rate the book a 4 instead of a 5. That may sound harsh but I started disconnecting with her character halfway into the book. I like heroines that count the costs but still raise the stakes and play out their hand.
Nia has created some of my all time favorite heroines: Robyn, Ivy, Riley, Dani, and Lia. I know that not all heroines are created equal but I tend to favor ones that are not gun shy about who and what they want in and outside of the bedroom. I like absolution and boldness. However, this a great book from a great author that I was starting to miss and crave the workmanship from her pen.
Nina Forrester introduces us to these two and their perfect, almost too good to be true best friends situation. Then she slowly lifts the veil, revealing secrets, lies, hurts that show the readers the real picture, and for me, provides the real reasons why and how these two never attempted a relationship before. She seamlessly weaves in flashbacks, alternating between the early and later years, to help tell the story and reveal the good and bad between these two.
As usual, there are lots of interesting secondary characters, with Drew being the most captivating. When he appears on the scene, I was totally prepared to dislike him. That soon changed. I'm hoping he gets his own happily ever after, and we get to read about it, lol.
Nia Forrester continues to amaze. Loved this story. Check it out for yourself - I'm pretty sure you'll love it, too
