Product Description
What is Rockit?
Rockit is an audio splitter that provides solid connectivity while meeting a number of unique signal-routing needs. Rockit is great for older 2-plug headsets, or for connecting a monophonic or other two-pin microphones to a smartphone.
Why do I need it?
Rockit conveniently provides mutiple-function, high-quality signal routing for additional connections to the device you are using. With Rockit, you can connect to your smartphone with that older gaming headset that has two plugs, or record high-quality audio with any external microphone which suits your needs.
Rockit gives you separate inputs for mic and headphones.
Rockit is a highly durable and compact audio splitter designed to help get the most out of your phone's audio jack. It gives you two connectors in the place of one: a regular headphone jack, and a mono mic jack. Rockit gives you the freedom to attach headphones and microphones independently. You're no longer stuck with the mic in your headset. Use any mic you like.
Will it work with my device?
Rockit is based on standard 3.5mm (that's 1/8", for our American customers) audio plugs and jacks. If you are plugging into a device that has a standard headphone jack, you're good to go. Its inputs are based on that same standard: one is designed to accept a TRS plug, and the other a TS plug.
Rockit can still be used with newer devices without headphone jacks, using a Lightning-to-audio (for Apple devices) or USB-C-to-audio (for Android devices) adapter, including those provided with devices by the manufacturers.

to a mix-minus on a mixing board to record phone/skype conversations live for a podcast.
I run the headphone port directly to my computer audio interface, with the mic signal from the mixing board routed through the AUX output into the mic port on the Rockit Adapter. I listen on headphones connected to the Audio interface

I can record my voice plus two in-house guests and one person live via phone/skype/hangouts/etc all on different tracks with this setup.
You need to make sure you have the right connections to both ports, and you need to have both the headphones and mic plugged into the adapter before plugging it into your phone. Otherwise, it works as intended. Also have used it with a Samsung Galaxy S5 with no issues.
As with a lot of gear, size does matter as I use the headset with Amateur Radio (Ham) communications software on my PCs and often take the headset with me when I travel. The large size design of the newer, gaming headsets would just take up too much space in my carry-on bag and/or my suitcase when traveling by air. So the Rockit Headphone/Microphone Splitter seemed to be just the ticket to let me connect my old headset to the new computer.
I ordered and received it in a couple of days. It worked perfectly. It's size is perfect for using with the location of the combo plug on my new laptop. The actual plug part of it only extends a little beyond the device so it does not interfere with using my laptop in anyway. The plastic "block" that holds the jacks/plug together are a convenient size to get a grip on it when inserting or removing it from the laptop. So all-in-all this is a great little device that works and helped me avoid buying a new, expensive, larger headset that would not likely have worked as well as what I already had. I highly recommend this device.
Update 06/14/2013. I did upgrade this product to 5 stars. I did make big mistake when I try to use this splitter with my Motorola Photon 4G. I was not able to plug on not because the splitter was to thick like I did mention before. But because my phone is inside protective case and this particular case have two small bumps on bouth side of headphones inputs what make impossible to plug some devises what are more thick then desire by manufacture of this case. But, I did file up this plastic bumps and now this splitter working perfect with my phone inside protective case. Now I use this splitter to connect my smart phone with Rode Smart-Lav mic and Sony MDR-V700 headphones and everything is working wonderful. Thank you for very good product.
I use this in 2 ways. When I am gaming on my PS4 I plug this in so I can use my audiophone grade headphones (Grado SR80i) and my Antlion ModMic together to chat with friends, I also use this on my smart phone for making calls as my ModMic is better quality than the mic on my phone and its easier to here the person on the other side.
I feel like this is built to last and would reccommend this to anyone!
So, I picked this thing up. It separates out the two jack functions into two jacks. The headphone worked right away, but I had to make some changes via the Control Panel (through the "SmartAudio" and "Sound" applets) to get the microphone to work (everything was configured to ignore the external microphone by default).
You could also use this device to separate out the functions of, say, a cell phone combo jack, but I can't really picture a scenario where I would need to do that.
