This really is one of the best books on makeup I have seen. The only other book that has impressed me is Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual and I think that is another must have.
While his other Wedding book lacked content, this has heaps of it. I love how he describes eye shapes, face shapes, contouring etc. I love that his makeup is natural but beautiful. I have read other books like Rae Morris and although the theory side of her book is good, I just don't want to duplicate any of the eye makeup styles that she shows - it's too 'out there' and for fashion. While Robert Jones book has great makeup for everyday, glamour or bridal.
Some reviewers had complained about the badly over photoshopped images. I didn't feel that they were that bad, yes they had some retouching but it wasn't so bad that it looked like they were mannequins and it didn't turn me off. The photography in this book is just beautiful.
Some of the things that would have improved this book is if he had added the 4 styles of eye makeup he shows in his wedding book (it was the only worthwhile 4 pages in that book). And if he mentioned brands, or if he could sell his own brand of makeup so that we could exactly duplicate the looks in his book.
If you are going to buy one Robert Jones book then buy this one. From other reviews it seems that he rehashes a lot of content so as much as I enjoyed this one, I wouldn't buy any others.
The books start with a tedious glossary of makeup terms; the purposes of foundations, concealers, powders etc; and a review of brushes. This whole part is for beginners, definitely not for women of age!
The tips are good, especially for eye shapes, but what happens if one has close-set droopy eyes? What technique to use???
Over all, the "Looking Younger" seems better and a bit more profound.
I was planning of purchasing all of Robert Jones's books, but I'm afraid the others will be exactly the same as well.
SO I'll pass.
One of the best part is the before and after of non-models and models. You get an idea of how he contours the face and works the makeup. A good starting tutorial or for picking up tips. Who knew you need three shades of foundation to highlight and contour your face? It made a difference immediately and looks natural.
