Blake finds himself, with his friends, reminiscing about his high school days. He's come a long way since then and is now an up and coming film producer with more money than he knows what to do with. He's successful in business but feels like he is still missing something in his life. He'd like to settle down but he's not sure he's built for that.
Carrie finds herself waiting tables at a high school reunion, the same one Blake is grudgingly attending. This is just a temporary job for Carrie; definitely not her dream job. Blake and Carrie meet over some broken glass and decide to meet up later that evening. They hit it off instantly. They decide to meet up again. Blake is used to getting whatever he wants, with Carrie, he's going to have to work for it. Carrie isn't looking for a relationship and Blake isn't looking for a wife, so when he suggests she have his baby, Carrie is confused until he pleads his case. If she agrees, she would have the money she needs to pursue her dream and Blake would get his baby. Sounds great, right? It, almost, seems too good to be true. Well yes...until he finds out who Carrie really is. Intentional baby making is a serious thing, especially when feelings are involved. Feelings you never thought you'd have. Too bad the past has the potential to ruin their future.
THIS IS A WELL WRITTEN, SEXY, LIGHTHEARTED READ WITH JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF ANGST ! THE STORY FLOWED AND THE CHARACTERS WERE AWESOME ! OFF THE CHARTS CHEMISTRY AND LOTS OF SCORCHING HOT BABY MAKING ! ! ! A DEFINITE ONE-CLICK !
She says "As I speak, I lean across to my laptop and type out snippets of the conversation we are having. Some of it is too good to waste."
The only problem is that Blake is using Carrie, too. It's no spoiler to tell you that he wants her to have her baby. Like Carrie, I felt like I had a cold bucket of water thrown at me when Blake makes his proposition. Just like when Carrie wanted to use Blake for her book, he turns around and wants to use her for his posterity. The attraction between the two of them is undeniable, and they are both using it to get what they want.
It's really not that sinister, though. It's the dialogue that makes this story and Ms. Pratt's witty lines will make you smile and chuckle. Not many authors can write such lighthearted dialogue and make it sound not contrived and natural.
I highly recommend this book and will continue to read books by this author!
I received an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
He is filthy rich and smoking hot. He also had to make his way to this point in his life. He came from a broken home and has had a very broken heart. A hard worker, film maker, investor. No wife, no kids, showing up at a high school reunion. Blake thinks about turning around and just leaving. He doesn't, and about the time he is getting ready to leave, his friend who has had a little too much bumps into a gorgeous waitress, dropping and breaking glasses. Blake doesn't know it yet but he is glad he stayed and his future depended on that point.
She is trying to be a writer, but until then she takes up these catering jobs to help pay the bills. She is glad that the reunion she is working tonight isn't hers. Lots of people drinking a bit more than they should. Carrie has not had an easy life ever. She is an orphan, and her foster family is no more, but there is a dark secret about that, she keeps it hidden. Then out of nowhere some guy bumps into her causing her to drop the tray and glasses. The next things she knows her future is talking to her.
Secrets....never a good thing, especially when interested in someone. Both of these two carry dark pasts, afraid to talk about it. Time just never seems right. Blake has never felt he could or would want to open up to another woman again, he has the scars on his heart to teach him not to. So he finds himself confused and feeling strange about just blurting things out with Carrie. Carrie has lost someone very dear to her, and going through some old photos finds one of her adoptive sister and Blake. The high school couple. Blake is still alive, but Lyndsey is not. But Carrie remembers something her sister told her and it had to do with Blake.
Blake has an idea, he wants kids, no wife or long term commitment, just a child. He poses a proposition to Carrie. Remembering the secret her sister told her Carrie thinks up her own plan. She agrees to his, with her own motives in play. The catch to this plan is it will be done in any other way except the traditional way of going about this. The two talk, have dinners, talk, pack a bag or two for her to stay with him for a week to accomplish the goal. More talking, more deeper secrets come out, and feelings are brewing so deep. Both are too scared to admit their own, because they are worried the other doesn't feel the same.
Surprise....it happens, and from here on in there are a lot of emotions. Blake and Carrie both come clean about their secrets and schemes. Anger, hurt and then admitting their feelings all happen, as does an awesome happily ever after....however the getting to that point is what the whole book is about, and it is an emotional ride. Filled with bantering back and forth, happiness, laughter, tears, anger, frustration, hurt feelings, making up, heating things up every chance they get....the whole gamut of it all. Way to good to miss out on.
