Making Human Beings Human: Bioecological Perspectives on Human Development (The SAGE Program on Applied Developmental Science) 1st Edition
Purchase options and add-ons
Making Human Beings Human: Bioecological Perspectives on Human Development is a landmark collection that traces and summarizes Urie Bronfenbrenner′s thoughts on the bioecological theory of human development and recommends avenues for future research. The majority of the twenty-three retrospective articles were written by Bronfenbrenner, while some were written with colleagues in his own or related fields, over the course of six decades. The book′s articles document the domain of inquiry that has emerged gradually over many years and has now acquired a title of its own-the bioecological theory of human development. Making Human Beings Human is a culminating work by a prominent figure in the field of human development and will help to shape the future of the field.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2020A collection of Urie Bronfenbrenner's articles featuring his compelling thoughts on how we are shaped by the interactions between our biological make up and our environment, especially during the childhood years. Excellent resource for teachers and pediatric psychologists.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2013Bronfenbrenner's works is as valid today as it was in the 1960's - the ecology of the human development process does not change regardless of how much it has to adapt to the environmental changes. Bronfenbrenner, a lead theorist in the formation of the Head Start Program, is still the lead theorist in the design of SAMHSA's Strategic Prevention Framework now required in most major federal grant funding applications.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2015Thank you for sending it on time, and I am learning with this book for my class. I like learning with this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2005If you are looking for a really good read covering all of the basic theories of Urie Bronfenbrenner this is the one to get. I got it for research of Urie's work but it has become one of my favorite books of all time!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2016The book is a bit dated but it was a required read for a class. Some of the concepts are relevant but others are not.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2008This was a collection of articles by Urie Brohenbrenner and others explaining the bioecological theory of human development. It was clearly written and gave detailed examples of his theory. It is a great reference.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2020This book is horrible! The author uses the most complex sentence structure possible, either to inflate the view of himself, or completely confuse and bore the reader, I'm not sure which. The principles are simple, but the author makes them complex on purpose. The book would be one quarter the length if the author knew how to write and explain his ideas in a more efficient manner.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2007This was a great lit review on the development of Bronfenbrenner's ecological framework. It put several previously read articles into a structured presentation that made for ease of understanding.

Jim WoodReviewed in the United Kingdom on February 17, 20105.0 out of 5 stars Integrative and holistic Bronfenbrenner
A good read to catch up with many trends and ideas in bio-psychosocial-spiritual thinking. And if that is too much of a mouthful there are plenty of examples of how factors outside the individual impact on how they currently function. As relevant now as when Bronfenbrenner started writing about how many aspects of interlinked systems seemed to work. This may be a collection of different authors' ideas and understandings over time but it is definitely a perspective many people in services and politics would do well to comprehend- in depth.
