"An experienced secondary school teacher and English educator, Christenbury clearly knows her audience...the book is rich with the voices of teachers and students. Christenbury includes sample papers; transcripts of discussions; and teachers' assignments, handouts, and testimonials. Each chapter ends with recommended reading and references...The book will be extremely helpful to beginning teachers and will remind veteran teachers of why they teach. You will probably wish, as I did, that Christenbury were sitting in your faculty lounge so you could talk to her and ask her about that student in third period who just did not seem to understand what you were teaching. Until she does appear, you can be confident that the book will provide important insights and advice." -Louann Reid, Ed., Professional Links Column, *English Journal*

All new English teachers should read this. Christenbury gives helpful advice, anecdotes, and ideas on simply every aspect of the English Language Arts classroom. It is easy to read and very enjoyable. I am so thankful my English methods professor assigned this book. I have sticky-noted it up and plan on re-reading again when I get my first teaching job!

The article arrived in a timely fashion from the vendor. It arrived as described by the vendor. I ordered the book for a required graduate educational class. I ordered it from Amazon.com because it was substantially cheaper than the University bookstore. Amazon's shipping is also much faster than the University bookstore. However, if I were to rate the book itself I find it does not measure up to textbooks I've had through out my teaching career. I retained all my textbooks, and I continue to use them today. This one not so much. I don't like the way it is organized, and it does not really give any exceptional insights into the concept of teaching beyond what is contained in my other textbooks. I will more than likely keep it on my self, but I don't think it will be one of my go-to reference books.
