A little background: I enjoy woodworking as a hobby. My projects are not very large, and I don't have a lot time due to school, so I wasn't interested in spending too much money. I wanted to purchase a good quality jigsaw to take the place of my circular saw, which I find to be bulky, loud, and dangerous, for the size of wood I usually work with.
Research: I went with a Makita because all their jigsaws have great reviews on Amazon (thanks previous buyers). Comparing this to the other top handle corded models that are twice as expensive, it seems the only major differences are as follows:
- Motor Power: The fancier jigsaws have 6-7 Amp motors, which may be useful for those in construction. This one has a 3.9 Amp motor - I figure you just need to work slower, which is fine for the casual user. Because of the smaller motor, this model is smaller and lighter, which may be an advantage.
- Blade Change: The 4350 FCT has a tool-less blade change, as opposed to this model, which requires a hex wrench. Again, if time is important for you, this may be valuable. For me, not so much.
- LED Light: My workspace has enough light, so not needed.
This model still has the key important features, though, such as a die cast base, variable speed, and different orbital settings
Overall, very pleased so far. I will update the review after a month or two of use. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Still working great. Kinda difficult to get 45 degree angles right...guess and check seems to be the best way to go about that.
