About Makita's 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Tool Series
As one of the pioneers driving the cordless tool revolution, Makita changed the game with its breakthrough 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Series. Three years after its debut, Makita's LXT Series has grown from seven to over 35 tools, providing a wide range of cordless solutions for professional tradesmen. Makita also added 18V Compact Lithium-Ion for cordless power in a more compact size. Makita's 18V Lithium-Ion batteries and ENERGY STAR rated Optimum Charging System provide several benefits over old battery technology. When compared to traditional 18V Ni-Cd batteries, Makita's 18V Lithium-Ion batteries have 40% less weight, longer run time, and five-times lower self-discharge to keep cells active and ready to use at any time.

Makita's 18V Lithium-Ion battery delivers 2,000 cycles--2.5X more than Ni-Cd. In addition, built-in shock absorbing features help protect the battery, and sixteen firm-holding contact terminals deliver constant high power. During the charging process, a built-in memory chip in the battery communicates with the Optimum Charger for a more efficient charge, extending the battery life. Makita's Optimum Charger is also faster: it will charge an 18V LXT Lithium-Ion battery in just 30 minutes, and an 18V Compact Lithium-Ion battery in only 15 minutes. Makita also offers a Rapid Automotive Charger for 18V LXT and 18V Compact Lithium-Ion batteries that plugs into 12V DC sockets equipped in most automobiles and trucks for added mobility. Makita's growing line of LXT cordless tool solutions features a wide range of industrial-quality power tools, including driver-drills, impact drivers, impact wrenches, saws, grinders, screwguns, rotary hammers, and more. Some reviewers mention lack of sufficient torque while others say the tool is quite powerful. I almost hadn't noticed but wanted to warn other readers that amazon is using the same reviews for the BTW450 and BTW253 impact wrenches. The 235 is rated for about half the torque of the 450, so they're very different tools in that respect.

Typical Makita quality, which is good. However, it is just not powerful enough to do many of things I want an Impact Wrench for. Probably OK for anything with Torque less than 75 lbs.

Note: I also purchased the larger Makita Impact Wrench. It has plenty of power, but is soooo heavy that I rarely want to use it.

First off let me say that I wished makita would have come out w this gun sooner. It would have saved me $200 from buying my snap-on gun. I've used makita electric gun before and loved it. Never would have traded it in for a snap on gun if makita would have designed a better way to attach the battery on my 14.4v gun. But I digress, so far this gun is waaaaay lighter, more compact and stronger than my snap on gun. What more could u ask for? I know there are some reviewer that says its not as strong as the air gun but hey who's planning on taking crank pulley bolts off? Use the right tool for the job and get it done more efficiently. Look at the tool box of professional mechanics these days and u will see an electric gun in there somewhere. I now use this gun 90% of the time while I'm at work turning wrenches. Why deal w the hassle of dragging air hoses around?

I already owned 18v makita batteries and charger and I wanted a more powerful impact so this bare tool fit the bill. I got this because of the 3/8 anvil instead of the bit driver most come with. I am a professional mechanic and I use this tool every day and I got tired of breaking 3/8 socket adapter bits with the other style. Using a bit driver adapter also reduces the torque applied to the fastener. This feels about twice as strong as my last makita impact, I can remove lug nuts with it, although it does struggle to do that so I wouldn't make a habit of it. I took off one star because after a year of hard use one of the brushes fell apart. Rather than try and send it in to makita and be without it for a while I just ordered a new set of brushes and repaired it myself. If you want to use this for mechanical work it is the one to get for shure, if you want to drive wood screws get the one with the bit driver.

I'm a big Makita fan , but this tool is terrible and weak. My 1/4" hex impact has about 60% more power than this 3/8" drive unit. I sent it back. I then later check another one at a tool store and it was the same. If you put a deep impact socket on this tool, not only can you hold it from spinning with just your hand, you can actually spin the arbor backwards while it is in impact mode. Put a 3/8" arbor for 2 bucks on your 1/4" hex impact driver and you will be miles ahead of this tool. It's a bummer.

I would recommend to any one that works on cars & trucks, tractors, Atv's, UTV's, small engine repair, construction. This tool has worked out for me very well and has a lot of power in your hand. 3/8" sockets are a commend size and can get any where. You can use this with the small 1.5 amp battery but it will run out of power quickly. I use it with the 3.0 amp battery I use it all day long and it lasts and lasts. I also bought the TEKTON 47925 3/8-Inch Drive Deep Impact Socket Set 7- 19 mm. Great set. Give them both a try for your self. (If you try on your car or trucks lug nuts and they were not hand torqued with a hand torque wrench and were put on at your local garage with an air impact wrench chances are it will not take them off.) My cars lug nuts are torqued to 80 ft.lbs. and has know problem taking them off. (Makita also makes a much larger 1/2" impact wrench with 325 ft.lbs. for taking off tighter lug nuts.) that impact wrench was not very good for my application and usefulness.

I use this at the track to change wheels on my car. The wheel nuts are torqued to 80 lb/ft. The tool breaks them loose fine after about 2 seconds. Quality of the makita tools are really nice, better than the Dewalt tools I also own. Love the LED. I don't like the size of the makita charging station and mine is already making an awful sound while charging (the fan I believe.

I use this more than any other tool in my garage. I absolutely love it.

I mainly work on snowmobiles, and this is the perfect size and power level for what I need it to do.

The weight is good, I like the led lights, and the belt holder comes in handy as well.

3 years of use and still going strong.
