I read reviews on various manufacturers and combo types before choosing this kit. I wanted a combination where both tools were relatively equal in quality so one tool wasn't for show while the other one was for work. Since this kit is relatively new, there weren't many reviews but the manufacturers specs made this an immediate selection for me. First, I wanted a hammer drill that would do the basic jobs of drilling through a variety of materials, make accurate holes and be easy to handle. I don't do a lot of masonry work but, when I do I want accuracy and performance. The first job I gave the LXPH03 was a light demo job through cinder block, rebar, mortar and brick. Using a Bosch 1/2" x 12" Blue Granite Turbo masonry bit made this job a snap. It ran through the cinder with no effort. Even the cinder block side walls were drilled through with minimal effort. The Hammer Drill also made easy work of the mortar. The brick was a different story. Although the drill seemed to have sufficient power, the bit wasn't able to bite through the brick. Making two 5" diameter holes for HVAC vents took approximately one hour but most of the time lost was due to working around rebar until I could get a cutter on site. The light feature is also useful. The light remains on 20 seconds after the chuck stops. This allowed me to peer into dark holes to see how the job was proceeding. The side grip included with the drill was barely needed as the impacts made by the driver were so fast that the drill barely vibrated. Installing and changing out bits was also simple with a short turn of the chuck sleeve. Although I worked mostly in high speed, I experimented with the speed change switch and found that easy to change with a moderate push.Read more ›

I work for a general contractor, and my drill and impact get lots of use. I recently decided to upgrade from the Makita Lct200w kit I had for a few years, and I'm so glad I did.
-The 3.0Ah batteries provide much longer run time, which is much appreciated on jobs like steel roofs where I am putting in screw after screw for 10hrs.
-The included bag provides enough storage for the included items and a few boxes of bits/drill indexes. The side pockets don't afford you much storage when the bag is full, but you can slide smaller items like a two pack of power bits in there. The bag seems durable enough for contractor use (it has proven to be so far)
-Both tools have well designed belt hooks, and convenient LED lights.
-The kit includes a nice plastic bit holder which screws onto the side of the base of the impact, it holds two power bits. The bits do stay put even through a whole day of use on the job.
-Both tools have tons of power, if I quickly use a coworkers impact driver I can immediately notice the difference in power.
-The impact drivers torque selector is very useful when performing a variety of tasks, and it's great to see a low battery indicator since the batteries don't have a battery meter.
-The hammer drill blows through concrete (I use Bosch blue granite masonry bits) for Tapcon holes, and does not have any noticeable chuck wobble.

My only gripe is that the Makita batteries still don't have an LED battery life indicator when many others do.
Overall I love this set, and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Quality is beautiful on this product. Weight. Feel and Function could not be better IMHO

Only other thing to be said, every time someone comes to my condo and sees my drill bag, they tell me how much they love their makita drill.

This speaks volumes. Zero regrets!

good set of drills now to see if they stand the test of time. I put my last set through hell for years and it never failed me. un-like other "Name Brand" yellow tools that burn through triggers every 6 months

Years ago I had my favorite drill set - the old 7.2v Makita driver. Over the years it got beat up and replaced with a Ryobi set with all the bells and whistles. Well the Ryobi set just kept having problems with batteries and chargers. Liked the set but half the time was replacing the batteries or chargers (including a recall).

So when a friend brought his new Makita impact driver to help with a project I fell in love. Amazing torque, but with the impact system it moves the most stubborn screws without stripping them. Knew I had to have one.

Could not be happier. The Makita quality and balance once again. Bought a number of the other parts now as well (circular saw, etc) and all work great. Charges fast and get plenty of run time.

I have these as well as the smaller 12v set. I use the 12v set 90% of the time, but this hammer drill is what I use when I need to mount anything into concrete. Also drilling holes larger than about 1" is too much for the 12v drill. I also use the 18v impact driver for larger bolts and lag screws. Basically, when the 12v set is not enough, it is great to have these to reach for.

The switch burned out in the drill and repair depot near my house fixed it quickly for free. Great service.
