This drill is the same exact product as the one that costs $179.99 usually. Makita releases a special edition for an amazing price every year around Labor Day, I believe. You get one battery instead of two in the set that costs $179.99. The battery charges extremely fast and the drill is top notch quality. The guys at home depot kept telling me Makita, Bosch and Milwaukee are the 3 best brands. They said catching this one during it's special release is hands down the best purchase.

This is hands down, all around the best drill I have ever used. I usually use Dewalt but after using my father-in-law's Makita I bought this. Great for light to medium/heavyish projects. It charges fast, has 2 speeds and a responsive trigger. Has a led light to illuminate where you are working and has a super sweet 'holster' attachment that I now wonder how I ever got along without it.

I highly recommend this, great quality and an amazing price.

I bought this to replace my old worn out Ryobi drill.
This drill is the same quality as other drills sold at higher prices at stores. As far as I can tell, the difference is that the charger and battery are "low end" compared to the more expensive version. The more expensive charger is the "quick charge" type, this one is a standard charge rate. The battery is the lowest capacity battery Makita. Not as big a deal as it sounds since you still get a fair amount of work from each charge.
The more expensive version will charge a battery in 15 min. where this one take 30 minutes to charge.
For me it's still a great deal. The drill is great! High torque, low weight, and small size means I can use it in places where I couldn't fit my old drill.
If I want more battery life I can always buy a second battery later.

Should come with a second battery. Unlike older chemistry models, Li-ion doesn't give you notice in advance it will stop.. It simply stops spinning and then it's 30min charging before you can resume working.

Fast charge! Well balanced weight wise, and lightweight. Small and comfortable to handle. The real key is that this is a POWERHOUSE of a drill!
Long battery life from each charge as well. Fantastic item and lightning fast shipper.

My husband bought me this so I would stop borrowing his whenever I needed to hang something or repair an item. I like the design because the grip is easy to hold on to and it has enough power to get the job done.

I like the drill but there are a few shortcomings. Battery life too short for a lithium. Should work fine for the non-professional.

We are a manufacturing plant and we use cordless drills all day long every day. Most of what we do is 1-5/8" screws into hardwood. I have tried almost every brand out there and everybody likes these the best. We run them very hard! I have been using these since they came out. We have about 12 of them running at any given time. I can get 3-5 years out of a gun and 1-2 years out of the batteries. I have had to replace the brushes, triggers, and a small spring for the clutch in them occasionally, but for the amount of use that they get, I am very happy. I was excited when the Dewalt came out with their brushless guns, so we tried one of them. The clutch on the Dewalt was way too loud when it engaged. So once again I purchased more of the Makitas. We also like the lighter weight battery that comes on these as compared to their XLT line.
