The story was great and the cast of characters was the lynchpin. They are all very different but learn from each other, making for a great cast. There are humorous moments (some that may fit to my style of humor but may cater to others), but also heart-wrenching moments... I might be eternally angry about a certain thing or two just because I cared so much about the characters! Mal-adaptive has a bit of everything; action and story are threaded together with a dash of romance.
I also enjoyed the updated, modern spin on the angel/demon mythos. There are some surprises there, too. I loved the book the first time around, and I certainly loved the second!
I always love Mike Burton's stories, and I think this was his best full-length novel so far. Malaika seems just like any other young woman, enjoying her job at a coffeehouse and spending time with friends. She is happy, if unsure of her future, and doesn't particularly want anything when her life is disrupted by two confused representatives from heaven and hell. Discovering who these men are and why they are bugging her becomes her first priority, and it's a fun ride through the intricate structures of good and evil. The ending was fantastic.
Very much looking forward to the book previewed at the end!
