An original, well-done movie. I wish they'd do a part two.Note: There was some initial confusion with the product:The product is advertised as BluRay + Digital (MoviesAnywhere) code. UPC ending #551.But that's the slipcover. If you receive one without the slip cover - as I did - it appears to be just a BluRay with No MoviesAnywhere code. UPC ending #550. (See attached photos.) However, though it may seem like it is not the right product, it IS the correct product, as you will see when you open it. The digital (MoviesAnywhere) code is located on an insert inside.

I was not sure if I should watch it because of all the bad reviews given for it, but I am glad I watched it on HBO max. I really liked it. It had an interesting premise. The kills were cool and the music was great. It was on sale on here, so I bought it and I am happy to own in my horror collection.

A lot of negative reviewers seem to have misunderstood what the director was trying to do.
If you want a review from someone who understood the intent but feels it fell far short of its goal, this is the review for you.
Malignant wants to have its cake and eat it too.
Essentially Malignant is an attempt at an homage to classic exploitation films with over the top melodrama and extreme violence.
The problem is the film is extremely inconsistent in its tone.
At times Malignant invites you to laugh at intentionally cheesy dialogue and overacting.
Other times Malignant seems to expect you’re taking the story seriously.
The film presents 0 charismatic characters and because the movie can’t decide if it wants to commit to the tropes it’s alluding to, it presents a very inconsistent product that is simultaneously cheesy on purpose and self conscious about whether you’re taking it seriously when it wants.
The result is a thoroughly underwhelming and predictable story that meanders for over an hour through a lackluster investigative thriller that culminates in approximately 20 minutes of somewhat entertaining ultra violence.
Unfortunately even the fun gore fest is hampered by excessive CGI that takes all the impact and viscerality out of what might otherwise have been pretty solid horror violence.
I see what James Wan was trying to do.
I don’t take issue with the concept or the films it’s trying to pay homage to.
The problem is the film felt afraid to commit.
As a result there are moments where it’s really impossible to say whether the film itself knows what tone it’s trying to set.
Malignant lacks the absurd over the top qualities that lend classic exploitation films their charm for the vast majority of its run time - instead 90% of the film is simply mediocre acting and lackluster dialogue that feels lazy rather than intentionally whacky, despite what they were clearly going for.
Combined with a pretty underwhelming finale and a “twist” that could be deduced in the first 5 minutes, I frankly found myself bored.
By the time Malignant decided to actually go all in I’d been checking my watch for well over half an hour - the payoff just isn’t all that good and it’s not anywhere near as revelatory as most reviewers chalk it up to be.
Malignant is self aware, it’s not badly acted or cheesy on accident - but it felt like a story stuck perpetually at the starting line, afraid to actually hit the ground running until just before the credits roll.

It has a dark and mysterious atmosphere about it. The main character has visions, hallucinations, phychic dreams and odd out-of-body experiences, but can't explain any of it. When she and her sister go to the police with what they know, they begin to suspect her, so they leave. Lots of strange stuff happens until it all comes to a head and she figures out just what is going on. Watch this movie if you want a good thrill-ride!!!

An original, well-done movie. I wish they'd do a part two.
Note: There was some initial confusion with the product:
The product is advertised as BluRay + Digital (MoviesAnywhere) code. UPC ending #551.
But that's the slipcover.

This is a VERY cool movie. Good gore. Great style of direction and fantastic action BUT! Here is the bad. It's basically a Lifetime Channel movie. Complete with stupid abusive men, cliche police characters and GOD AWFUL dialogue. Oh, my... The dialogue is so, SO bad. I mean cringe worthy bad. But, it does have a good story. Very 1980's but, in a good way. It's got some really cool twists and stuff you won't see coming. Unless... You've seen EVERY horror movie that came prior to 1985. Lol. It's a fun popcorn movie that doesn't require too much brain power but, does require a think skin for GOD AWFUL LIFETIME CHANNEL MAN HATING dialogue. Oh' my.... I cannot stress that enough. If James Wan had Leigh Whannel (long time friend and collaborator Saw & Insidious) write the screenplay instead of Akeela Cooper then, it probably would have been less painful. But, it was still a good movie thanks to James Wan's masterful direction and craft. It's worth seeing and owning.

An X-files type horror.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on July 8, 2022
is a 2021 American horror film directed by James Wan from a screenplay by Akela Cooper, based on a story by Wan, Ingrid Bisu, and Cooper. The film stars Annabelle Wallis as a woman who begins to have visions of people being murdered, only to realize the events are happening in real life. Maddie Hasson, George Young, Michele Briana White, and Jacqueline McKenzie also star.
I do like a good horror story with a bit of a different feel along the lines of some stand-alone X-Files episodes. even though you will probably guess the twist by the end it doesn't take away from the enjoyment of another fine horror.

The best movie of 2021. The Film is fantastic. The 4k disc lacks Dolby atmos

This is my best movie of 2021. the film is fantastic. The quality of the 4k is fantastic and is one the best transfer that I have seen. It’s a true 4k transfer. Amazon has done great job delivering the 4k Blu-ray, again.
Now to the annoying part:
On the back of the 4k box, the Dolby atmos logo is printed, but there’s no Dolby atmos track on the 4k disc, WTF? The online streaming Services like Apple TV have the movie with Dolby vision and Dolby but the 4k physical disc does not include The Dolby vision. I don’t care about Dolby vision but atmos track?!!! Where is it? I’m very disappointed in 4k disc. Not cool, not at all.
AGAIN, THE FILM IS FANTASTIC AND IT IS THE BEST MOVIE OF 2021, watch it.

Kinda dumb and not scary but a lot of fun, and amazing 4k picture quality and sound.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on December 30, 2022
This movie is very predictable and silly, but it has great moments and special effects including well choreographed gruesome fight sequences and shootouts. It’s not scary at all; it’s more of a spooky supernatural mystery action thriller with gruesome deaths. The director has stated this is supposed to feel like a 80s B-movie and so it fulfills its purpose. The 4k quality is absolutely amazing and one the best I’ve seen, so you’ll definitely be engrossed but you’ll feel that movie is a bit shallow and predictable once the credits roll.

You know those films where you see the huge twist coming from a mile away?
Well, this is the other kind!
Mad, gory, an original twist and decent story.

It's got a good original plot idea, a woman with a traumatic life as visions of murders as there happening.etc the first 45mins were a bit slow, the second half more entertaining ,had a good twist .certainly worth a watch. L,d personally give it 15 rating then 18, l did,nt think it that scary.
