Mine came with two different sized bars for the center connector. I found that the longer of the two bars worked great for my Ocean Kayak brand kayaks. The shorter of the two bars would enable me to use it for my Hobie Mirage kayak. It's a couple screws to switch out the center bar - so I'll probably purchase another one so that I don't have to keep switching out the bar.
Build quality is great, and it doesn't look like anything on this is going to be breaking anytime soon. The posts have ribbed rubber that gets larger as you go down the post. This cushions inside of your scupper. Sitting on the center post is some firm foam that the bottom of your kayak sits on top of. The wheels are solid plastic - not air filled.
If I'm going out from one point and coming back to another, I will flip these upside down and place them into the scuppers from the top of my kayak. Then when I need to get back out of the water, I have my wheels with me.
Bought this kayak cart as I have previously purchased Malone kayaking products (2 sets of J-Loader kayak cradles and the Telos Lift Assist) and was pleased with their quality. This cart was delivered quickly, and I began assembling the cart right away. The instructions were clear and easy to understand, but there was a major problem with assembly. You have to fit half of the crossbar in each of the cart's uprights, which then slide together and give you an adjustable width crossbar. The problem was that the crossbars fit into a hard plastic "T" on each upright, but the holes to accept the crossbars were too shallow. The crossbars fit the hole shape, but not in depth- you could not insert them far enough to insert the screw to hold them in place. Both sides had the same problem. No manner of dead-blow hammering or brute force could get them together. Truly baffled, I sent it back to Amazon who quickly sent me another. Second cart had the same exact problem. I couldn't understand how I got two successive carts that seemingly had the same manufacturing defect.
Going through the reviews, this cart had nothing but glowing reviews (and I read reviews for everything before I purchase online) and no-one had made any mention of the problems I had experienced. Surely, I hadn't just got two consecutive identical fluke manufacturing defects. I sent the second one back and decided not to deal with a third.
I was greatly disappointed that Malone put out a product like that. Kudos to Amazon and their customer service for helping with the exchange and eventual refund.
