One of a select number of African American writers to appear consistently on the New York Times best-seller list for hardcover fiction, Weber presents an edgy new novel about everyday people and their choices. Set in an apartment building in Jamaica, Queens, it is rife with surprises, secrets, and suspense. Even murder. When handsome Darryl Graham moves into the building, his neighbors are drawn to him for different yet powerful reasons. Connie wants to work out with him, lose weight, and get her husband Avery’s attention back, but Avery is on a dark path of his own. Avery’s daughter, Krystal, is a former girlfriend of Darryl’s and she wants to be with him again, even though she has a new boyfriend. Benny needs a big brother because his father is always busy with the women in the building. And the gossipy women on the stairs think they know all about Darryl. Weber reveals the layers and complexities in each character, while pulling readers into this intense urban tale with twists and turns that continue right until the very last page. --Amy Alessio --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

The direction of this book is new for Mr. Weber, but definitely does not disappoint. I am eagerly waiting for the sequel, as well as the movie. I have recommended it to a few friends, and will buy. Copy for my son for his birthday . Way to go Carl Weber!!!
When the police try to connect pieces to a criminal puzzle, it's hard to feel sorry for everyone in the cast very long. Agendas collide and halt in an unlikely manner. Who can be trusted, and who is telling the truth about what really happened to the most intriguing character in the book? Tenants finger point and turn on each other to save their own freedom. Avery and Connie easily become a favorite couple in the story.
Carl Weber's latest book will leave readers wondering if Daryl Graham will return, offering more insight about how he became the man who everyone wanted to know. Weber fans could easily anticipate another appearance, after this entertaining foray. The Man in 3b is an intriguing read with a "who done it" backdrop.
The fact that this is a African-American who-done-it type of novel already had me at "HELLO". He has never written a novel such as this and there's not that many AA authors who try to take that risk. As you read the book, you begin to understand why everybody and their mama is so into Daryl. Heck, I was into him just as much as the ladies on stoop. Instead of them waiting on him to show up to and from the building, I was waiting for him to appear back in the novel. In true Carl Weber form, we got the drama that us fans OH SO LOVE and have fallen in love with Weber's novels for. The way his characters "read" one another (talk smack) is absolutely entertaining and the things they go through is great.
From left-to-right you suspects with motives come and try to figure out who killed the infamous, sexy Daryl gets harder. There were so many twists-and-turns and shock value things and you will definitely say, "This is one of the best books I've read."
Maybe I shouldn't have read this book so early because now I'ma feel like other books wouldn't compare. Had this book came out in December of last year, it would've hands down been the best book that I read of 2012. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND--to the one millionth degree--this book to everybody that loves to read. Carl has REALLY OUTDONE himself ONCE AGAIN, steady keeping his #1 spot as my fave author. Can't wait to read "The Choir Director 2" or "The Family Business 2"...whichever one comes first.
