Review

“A treasure chest of information on how we can best live with animals of all kinds.”
—Jim Fowler, star of Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom and former wildlife correspondent for Today

“There are many who help animals by learning how to do so. Then there are those who are blessed with a sense that transcends learning—true animal healers. Marc Morrone epitomizes the latter and is one of our gifts to man’s ‘favorite kingdom.’ And now, this book is Marc’s way of sharing his gift with us.”
—Dr. Marty Goldstein, director of Smith Ridge Veterinary Center (South Salem, New York), and author of Nature of Animal Healing

“When many of Marc’s orthodox customers requested kosher bird food for Passover, Marc asked me for advice on how to comply with their request. He then became a dedicated provider of kosher pet foods for a variety of animals, and I continue to be impressed by his enthusiasm for what he does, his broad knowledge of animal needs, and his joy in providing the greatest possible satisfaction for all of his customers.”
—Rabbi Israel Chait

Before reading this book, I wasn't sure how much it would interest me.I've read several books about dogs, but this one appeared to be memoir of some kind. It turned out to be both an informative, as well as an engaging read. Marc Morrone's love for all animals is apparent throughout the book, although it's obvious that he has a particular fondness for birds, not surprising when you consider that's his main business. I learned a lot about different animals in this book, and Marc's anecdotes are fun to read. I even aquired a newfound respect for Martha Stewart, who was previously not one of my favorite people. But Marc's stories of his interactions with her made her more human and down-to-earth to me. Anyone who loves animals will surely enjoy this book, and I hope that Marc keeps up his great work for years to come. The only sour note in the book was Marc's decision to euthanize a wolf-dog hybrid. While I have no doubt that this must have been a difficult animal to control, it seems a bit hypocritical to me for a self-professed "man of all species" to kill a healthy animal. I feel that someone would have taken that animal. It reminds me of Jon Katz writing in his book "A Good Dog" about killing a border collie because he felt that he couldn't control the dog. That type of behavior is both wrong and inhumane, particularly for those who pass themselves off as "animal experts."

What an enlightening book to read. One of those books that you can't put down. Learning about Marc Morrones' life, huge, clean pet store and his experiences with various animals is an absolute delight. This book is so well written and so well presented with fact and animal stories that are encouraging for any animal lover.

Marc cares to know about the animal world and helps us all understand how to live with our precious pets.

I was very surprised by how much I LOVE this book. I bought it because my son buys parrots from "Parrots of the World", and he told me that Marc the owner has been on TV and is YouTube. After checking out one of the videos, which I found extremely entertaining, I was inspired to buy his book. I met Marc once, and this book, which is part biography of his most fascinating life, gave me a new appreciation for what he does for the animals under his care.
This book will make you laugh out loud as well as teach you things about animals you never knew about. It is also a most fascinating biography of the author, in which Marc is as "open as a book". I can't wait to go back to the store with my son to get my book autographed by this brilliant, funny and kind "Man for All Species"!

I've got all of Marc Marrone's books. Funny thing is I only have cats but I like knowing about all pets. I highly recommend his books. He's very knowledgeable on all animals. His TV shows on the Hallmark channel are great too!

A great gift for my animal loving daughter! We are from Georgia and went all the way to Long Island to meet Mr. Marrone just for her birthday. What a great animal advocate and pet keeper! He was gracious and kind to us. Love the book!!!

I loved this book and could not put it down once I started reading. It is not only loaded with great information about various pets but it also describes the writer's life and passion for animals. This is truly a great book for all ages and I would highly recommend it. It goes beyond being a book about either pets or a personal story.
