`It was not only the ripping-yarn action of the stories and the engrossing narratives that held me, I was just as much taken by the man who recounted them. Through the most riveting episodes, his compassionate character and quiet voice seemed personally to speak to me ... The book has never
paled, never dated, and I have never forgotten its significance or the astonishing, gentle man who wrote it.'

Some of the duels lasted for months, and on many occasions he was lucky to escape with his life.
After reading this book I headed over to Zoo Atlanta and sat down in front of the tiger exhibit for a good half hour. Fascinating animals.
Understandably loved by the few who came in touch with him, he stands in stark contrast to the cruel political oppressors who did exist or whom allegedly existed in modern history's attempts to demonize the colonial times.
A fantastic window into some unique and underread history, that is both compelling and well written, making an easy and enjoyable read that offers both insight and excitement.
