Not only this is a beautiful and well done pilot, but it's super engaging and quite a great homage to the book. I can't wait to see more. The script is great, the photography is breathtaking and the performances incredibly solid for actors that are in the process of finding these characters. Order more!

A wonderful work of fiction, surreal yet intriguing storyline of twisted historical fact. Who did the US map by the way? Very creative...it leaves the viewer asking the "what if" question. I can't wait to see the rest of the season. Nice work Amazon!!!

Fantastic pilot. As a history buff but someone with no prior knowledge of the source material, I found it a fascinating "alternate history" and am very curious to see where exactly the story goes. The acting and production were both of high values and made it a pleasant viewing experience. While I'm sure having read the book may improve the experience, I found myself very engaged in the story regardless. Please commission this as a full time series.

Well, in this adaption of Philip K. Dick’s The Man in the High Castle, Germany and Japan are the only superpowers left and, within their considerable empires, have divided the United States between them. The ten episode first season is a dark, frightening look at a dystopian universe that very easily could have been made reality if Hitler’s side had managed to develop and launch atomic weaponry before the U.S.

THE PLOT

Juliana Crain (Alexa Davalos) is just your typical young woman living in Japanese Pacific States who gets wrapped up in the fight for freedom when her sister is gunned down in front of her. Joe Blake (Luke Kleintank) is a wolf in sheep’s clothing (maybe) who acts as her bodyguard within the Neutral Zone while claiming its all part of his Nazi-backed mission. Frank Frink (Rupert Evans) is Crain’s scared and confused boyfriend who finds himself the prime suspect when and attempt is made on the life of the Crown Prince (Daisuke Tsuji). It all comes together to form an addictive fight for survival in a world where the once proud and strong America has been turned into the two evil empires’ playground.

Yeah, I don’t want to give too much more away so you’ll need to watch it to see how they (and all the subplots that play out around them) work out – or leave you wanting more when that last set of credits roll.

THE PEOPLE

The cast is superb. Alexa Davalos (Andromeda, Clash of the Titans) exudes a steady strength as Juliana; while she’s no stranger to fear as she searches for the truth about the mysterious film she has thrust into her hands, she fights on against even the threat of death.

Beautifully & respectfully done. Well-acted and designed. (Being from Seattle, it was also fun seeing Seattle artfully and believably "costumed" into San Francisco and New York (both cities that I also know well). Intriguing set-up for future episodes and definitely want to see more. Bravo!

Verdict: A slow burn of a suspense thriller series, has some definite possibilities and looks very promising. I like the fitting use of German and Japanese languages as appropriate, and without subtitles which adds to the suspense if you don't know either. I would be very interested to see how this plays out and would definitely watch a season or two of this based solely off this pilot without any knowledge of PKD's book. If you like a side of dystopian misadventures flavored with a bit of George Orwell, check this series out!

PROs:
+Nice soundtrack that fits the atmosphere of the series and really adds to the environment of the series.
+Intriguing dystopia plot premise of an alternate past end to WWII that is very believable, creative, and a nice departure from all the teenage dystopias running rampant right now (hunger games, divergent, maze runner, etc.)
+Good time-piece clothing, including the clichéd Asian hats (particularly the Indiana Jones villain hat!)
+Very detailed and meticulous background writing and setting, giving nuance and life to an otherwise stale time.
+Decent use of filters for cinematography, giving a suitable feeling for the period but might venture into overuse at times.
++Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa - I love this guy, have loved him since Mortal Kombat, and seeing his face in a production always brings a smile to my face! (Plus, someone of Japanese descent actually PLAYING a Japanese character!)
+Another Indiana Jones throwback in showing a map of the journey while traveling, something that is just plain cool to see the actual route someone took.

This show is the prime example of something daring, something that most TV networks would reject and instead go for another meandering cop drama. It is imaginative and emotionally captivating.

This show is superior to all the other pilots! The other pilots are inferior!
