You have product-market fit and need to scale - what now? To start with, get this book. The Manager's Handbook is a wonderful collection of tactical & strategic advice for scaling a startup.

For example - hiring is critical to get right and crippling to get wrong. This book gives extremely practical guidance on making the role to sourcing to interviewing to closing to onboarding. And that's just one section - the book also covers modern collaboration, conscious leadership, giving/receiving feedback... and a lot more.

Many founders have told me how much value they've gotten from this book and continue to reference it weekly. Highly recommend!

a comprehensive management philosophy distilled

i wish this book was available when i started as a manager. many of my reports could have been spared my mistakes. being a decent engineer didn't make me a half-decent manager. i didn't know how to manage myself. how could i manage others? to be a great manager, we need to start by managing ourselves well. this book starts w a chapter that teaches us to manage ourselves first. it then progresses to teach proven (some unconventional) best practices to hire, coach, deliver, and much more. i often tell folks the higher up you are the more ambiguity you have to be able to deal w. at the CEO level, you get zero instructions. rather, you come up w them yourself, eg "be the category leader". at the VP level, you get, "why is product X not out yet?" at the manager level, you get, "is this the right scope?" this book was written by a CEO. but the lessons in the book directly apply to all levels of management. what differs is just the level of ambiguity we deal w. we can't be great managers w/o a comprehensive management philosophy. bits and pieces of knowledge from different books without a solid framework to hang on to makes us an incoherent manager at best. this book ties everything together

Great managers are rare, and probably why many people in the world hate their jobs right now. Hopefully with this book, that can start to change.

The managers handbook has a bunch of very helpful advice, and is written such that you can easily implement it in your meetings and daily routine. Especially essential reading for anyone who manages people for a living, but it can also be useful for individual contributors or anyone who is wondering what the next step in their career might be and considering a jump to management.

Highly recommended!
