Top customer reviews
Mats I've owned in the past.
-basic box store mat. Died after 2 years of light use.
-Jade Harmony mat. Smelled like a tire. Sunlight destroyed it in 2 years. Sad.
-Yoga accessories mat 1/4". This was a great budget mat from Amazon that lasted almost 4 years with moderate use.
And now I've graduated to Manduka. Namaste.
But that's about the only thing I liked about the mat. I bought because of its raving reviews about being super grippy and ideal for hot yoga. Now I don't do hot yoga but get a good sweat on in my classes and I just kept slipping and sliding pretty much from my first down dog on. After a few minutes I had to put a towel on the mat, otherwise I couldn't have made it through the class.
Definitely don't recommend it if you're sweating easily and looking for grip to stay on your mat without sliding.
I bought a Jade Harmony and a Lululemon "the mat" both are much better in terms of grip when you sweat. I like the Lululemon mat even better than the Jade, as I also started slipping on the Jade after a while. With the Lulu mat I stuck to the mat no slippage whatsoever.
I was really wanting to give this Manduka a chance as my teacher has one as well and she swears by hers and has it for 9 years, so I even considered buying yoga socks and gloves to be able to stay on the mat. But I'm glad I found the Lulu mat and glad I won't need gloves and socks. I sweat a lot as it is, don't need the extra warmth on my hands and feet.
It's a perfect thickness - solid but still light enough to transport to yoga classes - and I love the pretty purple colour.
I'm 5' 8" and wasn't too sure whether to purchase the longer or standard mat length, but am very happy with my decision to opt for the longer version, as its a really good length for my height as it gives me a little extra room on the mat during moving poses.
There were several models to choose from, so I picked this one. It's plenty sticky. It's thick enough, but not too thick. It's made in Germany and eco friendly. It rolls up small enough you can easily carry it around or to class.
It was expensive, but if you consider that each class costs you $15 or more, the mat itself is cheap in the grand scheme of things. So why not buy a GOOD mat? I did, and I'm glad.
