Product description

Manfrotto’s element Traveler carbon small is the perfect choice for enthusiast photographers looking for an extremely compact travel solution that is reliable, lightweight and easy to carry.
since lightness is a travel tripod must, photographers can rely on the spring-loaded hook located at the bottom of the centre column to add additional weight for extra stability when needed.
manfrotto element carbon small is ideal for CSC cameras and easily holds payloads up to 8.8 lbs. The aluminum ball head is engineered to deliver the smoothest movements when framing a desired shot and firmly locks equipment exactly where you need it.

if you’re into landscape photography, you’ll love the separate head’s pan lock that allows photographers to take amazing panorama shots easily and precisely thanks to its 360° pan index.
the ball head mounts an Arca-type quick release plate with a 1/4''-20 camera screw on top.

3.0 out of 5 stars Release Plate Issues
By D. Penrice on November 11, 2018
I really wanted to love this Tripod, I spent weeks researching, looking at multiple brands, weighing the pros and cons on each.

One of the main reasons I went with this tripod was due to the maximum height that it would achieve seeing that I’m 6”1 and didn’t want to spend most of my time bent over too far and something that was small and compact.

Anyway, after unpacking, the feel of the tripod is solid, heavier then I thought it would be but still manageable. The legs feel strong and take a little effort to fold down but that’s good - not sure how long it will be until they become loose after multiple unpacking.

After getting the tripod setup, I discovered the first of two major issues with the tripod, the release plate, even when tightening as much as humanly possible, the camera would still spin when slightly touched, it seems that the anti-slide feet don’t do anything at all - I had the camera and lens on the tripod, I picked it up by the neck and my camera span about 90 degrees - my heart skipped a beat!!! Luckily I caught it before it went any further.

That leads me to the second issue, the dial for the release plate, it’s too close to the bottom of the camera. I have small hands and I was having issues tightening and loosening the dial to remove the camera.

Finally, when using the camera level line, even when on solid ground with nothing moving, the camera was showing that it was not steady - not sure why.

So I’ll be returning this tripod and my search will start again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Travel Tripod! Still a little heavy, but perfect for the price.
By Austin on March 22, 2017
Overall, I've had a great experience with this tripod so far. It's easy to pull out of my bag and quickly assemble. Likewise, disassembly is a breeze. Converting to a monopod takes no more than 45 seconds. I wish it was maybe a pound lighter, but you get what you pay for - I'm pleased with my decision. I chose this over the Element Traveler Small because of the detachable monopod leg on this model and the sturdier build (though the small is very well built too).

Pros:
- Legs have enough tension to stay collapsed if carrying by holding just one leg
- Sturdy with Canon 6D and 16-35mm lens (~3.1 lbs) at full extension
- Foam grip on one leg (monopod leg) for cold weather
- Easy assembly/folding
- Fits in a Camelbak bag (just barely though)

Cons:
- Probably too heavy for true backpacking
- Carrying case it comes with is too big
- The ball head comes loose very easily
- When converting to monopod or back to tripod, you have to ensure that there's enough threads in both the center shaft and the head and not too many in the other. It doesn't automatically stop halfway on each.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Tripod - Comparable to the Bigger Model
By Austin on March 29, 2017
I purchased both this model and the larger one (Element Traveler Big), as there aren't many reviews and I thought the lighter tripod might be more suitable. The biggest downside for me is that the smaller tripod (this one being reviewed) doesn't have a detachable leg that converts into a monopod. Further, it doesn't collapse very low to the ground.

This tripod is very well built, however, like its big brother. The legs are noticeably skinnier and the ball head is smaller as well, but the arca-swiss plate is the same size on both.

For me, choosing which one to keep is a challenge. The cost and weight savings of the smaller tripod are a big plus.
