This is my first 'serious' tripod. I bought the el cheapo tripods from the large chain stores but they would break or they were not sturdy. Because of I suffer from back pain, I did not want to something too heavy and I also did not want to spend more than I paid for my camera.
After many searches around the web, I settled for the Manfrotto MK293A3-A0RC2 293 Aluminum Tripod Kit with Ball Head and Quick....
The construction is great, it looks great and it easy to use. I use this for long exposure photography, family portraits, light paint photography, and family events.
Cleaning is easy unless sand goes inside the legs. For this , you would need to remove the legs and clean inside to remove the sand and other debris. I found that to avoid this, wrapping them with plastic before you take shots in the river, will avoid taking it apart.
