When I started to read the book, I found myself constantly taking deep breaths, especially during Tyrese's parts of the book. I was praying for you Tyrese! I was giving thanks to the Lord for sending you a Man-tor in Rev Run. At that point I was ready to give the book 3 stars, and that is because I always reward honesty, but I would have given you 1 star because it was hard to read and way out there. I liked the balance Rev Run brought in, so I kept reading. I know at the end of the day Tyrese you are a man of faith and like the rest of us, you are not perfect.
Half way through the book then I started to get more into it, and appreciated Tyrese's truth. Again, I'm all about the truth no matter what. So reading your truth at that point of the book and what Rev Run had to say about it (which I often found myself agreeing more with than you) made me feel better and better.
The best part of the book was the part about communication and what men really need from a woman, what men really think, and how men are feeling. I was still taking deep breaths because it is hard to read about what men need and expect from a lady, but it was enlightening because so few actually voice it out. That, my brothers in Christ, is what I appreciate the most about this book. Your candor is appreciated and I thank you for sharing the truth no matter the cost.
And Rev, thanks for all you said to encourage single women of faith to look for a man of faith. I was considering stepping out of the church and your perspective helped me see the difference it makes to be with a man of faith.
" I got it" says one eager junior marketing executive, "We can call men MAN-ipulators and explain how they MAN-nipulate women throughout the book. By painting men in the worst possible light we can really exploit gender bias in our society." Oh my god, we are going to be so rich!!!"
I know what I have written may lend itself to hyperbole but the amount of times that men were referred to MAN-ipulators in the book was unparalleled. This book would have been better if the book was a little more balanced in providing ways for women and men to shake of the negative societal associations, such as that men must have as many women as possible and that women should find prince charming.
