It arrived with zero defects, finish is a little lighter than the picture. I tested the hydrometer using the salt method and it was perfectly 70. I seasoned the box by placing two shot glasses of distilled water in it for a few days after a minimal wipe down, until the hydrometer hit 70. The small circular hydration disc that comes with it doesn't hold much water, for me it will hold it within nominal range for about a week, after two weeks of neglect it dropped down to about 60.
It's finish is decent, smooth and simple. The glass and external hydrometer is a nice touch. Its an excellent desk humidor and for the price, its tough to beat.
I got exactly what i expected, and am pleased by the product. I have no reason to not give it 5 stars.

Here's for the genius wanna be cigar crowd on amazon. First off a humidor has a hygrometer not a hydrometer. Two totally different things. Second, the salt calibration method should read 75 RH not 70 l. If your hygrometer is at 70 then you are really at 75. Therefore if you're showing 70 in your humidor, you're really at 75 RH in the box and you're a little high.

If you look at the price of less than $50.00 and know anything about humidors, you'll know that this IS NOT A high quality humidor like a savoy or something along those lines. I wouldn't really trust this to store cohiba, montecristo, Padron or anything of that nature. Maybe factory overruns or things like that. Use it to store things that you're not concerned with.

Also, please dear god everyone stop with the wiping the inside of the humidor with distilled water. This is NOT good. Buy 2 boveda 84 RH packs and sit them in the box until your box will hold 70 RH with just your humidifier. That's my advice to everyone.

Oh and if the seams are bad then send it back. The point is for it to be air tight. Your cigars are there to be safe and hold the right moisture. The wood is for aging and flavor so remember that they are fermenting. Burp the box every now and again by opening the lid so built up gases can be expelled.

Looks great and has a good seal. Its done an excellent job of keeping the humidity in the ideal range. Very good, especially for the price. Hygrometer isn't totally accurate, that's the only downside.

This is a fantastic beginner's humidor. First of all the box it self is very high quality and it looks very nice. The box seals well and is good at maintaining a good humidity level. You could probably squeeze about 40 toro cigars in this one. This is my first humidor and I wanted something cheap so I searched all over eBay but could not find one (even a used one) for less than this humidor. The only real problem with this humidor is the hygrometer is way off. Mine reads -10 low and unfortunately it is not adjustable. But, what I did was pop the hygrometer out of the box by pressing it out (from the inside) with a knife and did the salt water test. After seeing it read 65% instead of 75% I just wrote -10 on the hygrometer and that's that. Overall, you cannot beat this humidor for the price.

I've had other humidors before, but this has been the best/least expensive so far. Has worked great so far - love that I can look inside.

Note: I seasoned it for three days. I used Cigar Aficionado website for instructions (here for your convenience, I added a few things) - 1) wipe all interior wood with distilled water using a new sponge - not soaking wet, just slightly damp, 2) fill humidification unit (included) with distilled water - after soaking up water, place upside down on paper towel for 30 minutes, 3) place the slightly damp sponge on a plastic bag inside of humidor along with the humidification unit, 4) leave 24 hours, 5) check sponge, if still damp, shut humidor, if dry, dampen the sponge and replace, 6) leave 24-48 hours, humidity should be 70-75%, 7) remove sponge and plastic bag, refill humidification unit if needed, 8) fill humidor with cigars and shut, 9) check often to make sure humidity is around 70%, 10) reward yourself with a great cigar for all your hard work.

My dad loves this! It does not come with any gel to keep it moist but it can be bought from the same company. if you do not mind adding water then you do not even need the gel! Awesome gift for the cigar lover in your life

The hydrometer does not work, but I knew that as I buying it. The other issue I have with it is the quality of the wood on mine and the workmanship that went into building it is, well... non-existent. The corners of the box do not align making it difficult to get a quality seal which you definitely need for a humidor. Because of the seal issue it was difficult to condition the humidor and keep it at a constant 70% humidity level, in fact I am still struggling with it even though I bought two tubes 70% on amazon per other reviewers' recommendations. I knew I was buying a starter kit but I expected a little better construction (the exterior is beautiful, but the interior part of the lid and the base is mediocre at best.
