Product Description
The Compact ComposTumbler takes your kitchen and yard waste and turns it into rich compost in weeks, instead of months (or even years). This composter was designed for suburban gardeners and homeowners with smaller properties. The barrel holds 22 cubic feet (9.5 bushels, 88 gallons), leaving plenty of room for fruits, vegetable, grass, leaves and any other organic matter you may have. A large door opening and gear driven handle made it easy to use. It has interior fins to help mix the material as it turns. Composter's assembled dimensions are 43" H x 42" W x 33" D and it weighs 60 lbs. empty. Made of rust-resistant galvanized steel for long life. Its sage green color allows it to blend into your property. Comes with a 2 year warranty on all parts

- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2024Style: ComposTumblerVerified PurchaseGot tired of messing around with less expensive and poorly made composters and finally got the one I always wanted. Should have just started with this one.
It wasn't easy to put together but I managed it with a little help. Solid, well made. Turning it can be a workout but it is easier than the other spinners.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2015Using the correct recipe you can hot compost in this thing as well as cold compost. I currently have a hot compost batch running right now though I am continually adding to it because the compost quantity really reduces in size once it starts breaking down. The gear mechanism is very nice and solid engineering. The air vents are also well built but the green air pockets seemed to have loosened slightly but nothing I am concerned with during this batch. I will re-tighten and add some lock-tite before next batch. I have not experienced any rust as of yet but I am going to put this in my shed over winter in hopes to prevent any rust issues like others have mentioned. the frame doesn't seems very sturdy when you look at it but for now it is holding up and once all bolts are connected is a pretty solid frame. The door has a post and a latch mechanism I recommend leaving the bolts a little loose then putting door on to adjust the locations of post and latch brackets then remove door and make tight. I did use lock-tite on the bolts for the door.
There is a word of caution while operating the handle on this composter. If you let go of the handle while the weight inside is shifted off center the handle will KICK back and if your face (Or your daughters) is in the way the handle will come back and hit you. She is okay but has a small scratch and bruise from the impact.
Also keep long hair away from the gears and handle as it could get wrapped around the handle during kickback and could potentially rip out a person's hair. No this did not happen, though I started thinking of other safety concerns after the first kick-back.
Summary:
Works very well and I would have had my first batch of compost by now but I keep adding more material into this composter so I get more product once it is full. It is easy to take door off and add more material. In a home of 4 people who eat vegetables, eggs, and healthy foods as well as grass clippings, a maple tree leaves and a willow I can keep this composter running continually and have a stockpile of material ready to go.
Only downfall I have now is I can only make one batch at a time. If they made this same style with two doors/ two sections I could have started once and then started another 4 weeks later. If this all works out I may just buy a second one of these.
Once batch is complete I will add pictures of the final product.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2017Style: ComposTumblerVerified PurchaseAssembly took some work. One of the holes was not predrilled so we had to do that on our own (missed in QA before shipping I guess). It's sturdy, easy to load & unload.
We've used this all season in the high desert of Nevada. Our yard waste is mostly grass clippings during the summer. I use small brown paper bags for our daily kitchen waste and burry the bags in the "pre compost" bin with fresh grass clippings and other garden waste. Our tumbler requires watering here as moisture needed for breakdown isn't in the air. I have yet to get a full broken-down batch in the advertised 14 days. But I am satisfied with the way the contents heat and partially compost within 2-3 weeks. We then remove the contents to our "post compost" bin for further break down and mixing with peat and vermiculite for next season. We're hoping the fall leaves added to the pre compost clippings will accelerate the composting process as I'm sure the actual mix in the bin needs to be perfected for optimal high desert breakdown.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2023Style: ComposTumblerVerified PurchaseThis product may be sturdy, it may be easy to use and it might even be a good value, but I can not report on that, because I can not complete its assembly. When I received the order it was missing a package of parts to complete the frame. After reaching out to customer service it was quite apparent that there is NO customer service. I believe that if you have customers you should have customer service. I say don not give them your business.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2024Style: ComposTumblerVerified PurchaseWe were so happy to find this tumbler available again. We just purchased our second. Our first one rusted out after maybe 10 years. We couldn’t find this kind, so we shopped around and tried another kind, but like all the others we found, it had doors that are too small to fit a pitchfork. What? So we patched our Mantis tumbler with sheet metal and got a few more years out of it, but other parts rusted through, and thankfully we found it’s available again. Though we know this one will eventually deteriorate, 10 years isn’t bad, and it’s the most functional compost tumbler on the market. We assembled the new one today: FYI, it takes two people to assemble.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2025Style: ComposTumblerVerified PurchaseI've had a Mantis Compost bin for 30 years. Last year it finally had problems and I needed another. I thought 30 years for a compost bin life was quite amazing. I bought another one just like the old one, had to assemble this one but the two of us managed it and I love it. The metal design helps heat up the leaves and grass by being in the sunshine and makes compost quite quickly even in Colorado winters. My November leaves will become compost by February. I've recommended it to my family and friends.

Mr. Michael PennReviewed in the United Kingdom on September 7, 20153.0 out of 5 stars Mantis Compact Composter.
Style: ComposTumblerVerified PurchaseThis came in a cardboard Flat Pack which was quite heavy. It needs assembly and previous experience of assembling Flat Packs is useful. I recommend carefully reading the instructions and following the sequence strictly as shown. I also carefully got the Screws, Washers etc for a section out and put them in a dish so you ensure you have the correct items. There are a couple of pages that show what various items are, I kept them visible at all times to ensure I was using the correct items. You need a reasonably large space to assemble the Compost Maker, I did mine in my Conservatory so I was under cover as it took me a couple of days and it rained!
There Instructions are quite good, but a couple of items were not shown clearly enough to be sure how to connect them, I of course did it the wrong way round the first time. Generally all the Bolts and Nuts went together easily, but 2 large Bolts would not take their nuts and without the aid of a friend with taps and dies I would have had to send away for replacements. All in all not an easy job, but hopefully the results will justify the effort.

Detlev BarthelReviewed in Germany on May 11, 20151.0 out of 5 stars Absolut inkorrekt
