I agree that one should at least be given the option to download the update or have it mailed to them.

I had a similar time frame experience last year when downloading my map update via my Mac. Your recommendation of storing the downloaded file in a safe place, because it gets corrupted after 30 days, causes me to ask the question: where? On a thumb drive, for example? Is the self-destruct date written into the software and thus transmitted along with the new map material? Just curious. And, as an aside, my so-called "update" was missing some local retail establishments which have been in place for several years. That, too, I don't understand. Thanks.
