UK Author Kevin Hatt delivers a great mix of black comedy, crime and mystery.
The story flowed well and I liked the main character, Haszard. I think if I cast Haszard, I picture a bit younger version of Clint Eastwood or Harrison Ford, playing the part.
The story revolves mainly around a map with a group of shady characters having the same interest in the map as Haz but for other reasons. There are also other things happening in the story which I Iiked as it made for a multi -faceted read.
The story was excellent but I think was drove it up to a full five star rating for me was Haz. He is a well created character and I was interested to know what other adventures that he would find himself in – so interested that as mentioned, I purchased the next two books.
The story revolves around a guy named Haz with a penchant for getting himself involved in some of the most quirky situations that are often shrouded in mystery.
Yet he methodically makes his way through situations, often aided by his friends, and immerges victorious once again. He leaves the reader eager for the next book and further adventures.
I feel I should give readers a heads up about Haz. He’s a cricket playing, ale drinker who tells the story in first person. In this story, Haz has several balls in the air at once as there are several situations in play, all unfolding in this book. I liked this touch as it kept me on my toes throughout the read.
I bought the third book as soon as I began this one as I knew I had found an author who has taken the time to create a multi layered cast of characters and plot. This is a story that can keep evolving as we move through each book so I hope to see several more books featuring Haz.
I'm invested in Haz and I can't wait to read about all of his adventures. The plot in this one was so much fun!
I love mysteries involving maps. Not only does Haz have to unravel the clues behind a map he was commissioned to frame, but he finds himself in competition with other shady characters who also want the map. And then just when I thought it couldn't get any better, there were some side issues to deal with - a haunted house! So, this book was right up my alley.
Kevin Hatt is a master at creating a good mystery, and he intertwines it with unforgettable characters, exciting plot twists, and a hilarious main man.
I absolutely loved it! I am so excited to read the third one and I want to own them all on paperback!
And the good news is: there are many more Haszard stories so I'm excited to have found a great new series I can sink my teeth in to!!!
