However the design for programming by connecting to your existing garage remote is positively ridiculous.
Using a 3 pin passthrough connector is very very stupid design.
After trying over a dozen times using 2 remotes I was ready to send it back.
I read the poor manual several times and watched videos on youtube. Still would not work.
I made one last attempt and was going to send it back even if I broke it - the 3 pin connector has to be JAMMED into the side connector to make a specific contact to work.
I even tried opening the cases to make sure the pins were touching the contacts on the circuit board.
So jamming it into the side connector worked but it should have been designed that way to begin with and the manual should have specifically stated that.
Do not buy this item, it is cheesy and poorly made and the manufacturer will not stand behind their products. You can tell they are trying to make money on replacement parts rather than sell a quality product that lasts a long time. If you were to try and order the replacement cover on their website, the only shipping available is a flat rate of $15.00. Not only are they trying to make money on a poorly made part, but they are also price gouging on the shipping. The cover weighs about an ounce and can be shipped via USPS 1st Class mail for about a dollar, but they are charging $15 for shipping.
It is easy to program, but, then again, it isn't. In Step One of the programming instructions, your remote is connected with a small four prong wire connector to the Keyless Entry device. Press and hold the button on the remote and press the "enter" key on the Keyless Entry. Punch your new PIN and you're done. But....it doesn't always work.
In Step 3 (!), way down in paragraph eight (!!), are instructions on "Clearing the Memory". Yes, you guessed it, you must clear the memory and then program the Keyless Entry. So programming the Keyless Entry is easy, but...
Tech support from Marantec is extraordinary. I emailed the company from their web site and had a reply that day. And it was a real answer to my question from a real human, not an automated "we got your email, leave us alone" email.
Like most people reviewing the Keyless Entry, my previous keypad wore out from use with the membrane shredded. I could have avoided this problem by changing my PIN every six months or so, to four different numbers. Share the wear and tear on the keypad. I barely remember to change the batteries in my smoke detectors and now I have to remember to change my garage opener PIN? And have everyone in the family learn the new PIN? I like the Marantech Keyless entry but....
