Short Review:

This is a great mid-range receiver that offers flagship look and feel, 2016 state of the market audio and video processing capabilities, and excellent sound quality for critical listening. The Denon AVR-X6200W offers overall better capabilities at a slightly lower street price with a less differentiated look and less focus on audio only, analogue sources and critical listening.

Pros
+ Clean industrial design with detailed display and controls under cover (if that is your thing)
+ Surprisingly robust and even sound given its relatively low RMS power rating
+ Does a great job with Dolby ATMOS material
+ Audyssey Platinum Suite (room correction with detailed time domain correction) – this makes a huge difference in our complex listening environments and an exponential difference when combined with ATMOS
+ Handles FLAC and other lossless files well
+ Fully supports HDMI 2.0 with the hardware to support High Density Copy Protection 2.

UPDATE 3/1/2016
After using this receiver in all it's functionality, I can hands down say it is fantastic. This flagship receiver replaced a 9 year old Onkyo SR705. It reproduces music and movie surround sound wonderfully. This portion of the SR7010 deserves 5 stars.

The Marantz SR7010 does not receive 5 stars only due to glitchy wifi issues during streaming/internet radio/media server etc. For instance, songs would just freeze when selecting on Pandora, or Internet radio, or media server. My Wifi router is an Apple Airport extreme which works flawlessly with 30 other products in my house, including devices next to this Marantz. It is not my WiFi signal since it was also glitchy on hard wired Ethernet connection. Hopefully a future firmware update will fix this. The Denon flagship (cousin of Marantz) had the exact same comments. Bluetooth music playing, however, works flawlessly and sounds spectacular with the Marantz HDAM chip processing awakening even the worst audio compression. Again, using the receiver's internal apple play is buggy. All of my family's I-phone 5S's with up to date software would randomly disconnect on Marantz built in Apple play. I prefer to connect thru my external apple TV box connected to the receiver if I want to stream thru air play. as it is much more stable. I still find the Bluetooth connection as the best sounding with no drop outs. Again, this Marantz SR7010 has a wonderful sound musically.

I am currently pushing a 6.2.

I upgraded from a 15-year-old Marantz SR7000, which was one of the last made-in-Japan Marantz receivers before the merger with Denon. I'm pleased to see that Marantz still has a commitment to producing quality audio/video gear.

There are two major changes moving from my old receiver to the SR7010. The first is having built-in HDMI support, which was the reason I upgraded. You can never have enough HDMI ports, but with 8 inputs and 3 outputs, I'm set for the near future. I was going to buy a receiver last year, but I waited for a model that supports the latest HDMI 2.0 and HDCP2.2 standards. Second, unlike old receivers which were mostly analog devices aside from Dolby Digital/DTS decoding, modern receivers are more like computers with a fancy on-screen setup menu, advanced digital signal processing as well as built-in support for audio streaming and network playback. Using Audyssey MultEQ XT32 was much nicer than the old method of test tones and a handheld SPL meter, and surround sound is noticeably better.

PROS:
- Lots of HDMI ports, as mentioned above. So far I've hooked up a cable box, PS3, Amazon Fire TV Stick, custom-built HTPC, and plasma TV with no issues.
- A decent number of analog inputs. I haven't hooked up all my legacy equipment yet, like the laserdisc player, but I appreciate that there are assignable component video and audio inputs. Having 7.1 audio inputs sets this receiver apart from some other models.
- The on-screen menus look nice, especially the setup menu that walks you through hooking up various sources. Setup does not handle the case where you have HDMI video with a separate audio connection, but the input menu makes it simple to assign the digital audio inputs to various sources.
