In an earlier 1-star review I pointed out that the Ames Tru Temper "universal" flat free tire was not universal as it would only fit wheelbarrows with 6" hubs. Both of my wheelbarrows have 3" hubs so the Ames turned out to be an expensive piece of junk. The Marathon tire is a truly universal tire and costs $23 less! Flat free tires are pricey, but I live in Arizona where thorns abound and the heat causes havoc on pneumatic tires. If you don't keep them filled weekly, they go flat quickly, breaking the seal which means a trip to a tire shop to have them resealed and remounted. The flat free tire pays for itself in no time at all.

In a word,,"FANTASTIC !!! At last,, no more flats or tire repairs.. Could not ask for a better solution and a affordable price. Just (1) one little issue that buyer's should be made aware of. These come to you with the 1/2" axle bearings installed. Your going to have to switch them out with the 3/4" one's that come supplied with the tire/wheel. I started with a punch to drive out the first bearing. Then flipped the assembly over and used a 15/16" deep socket to drive out the second bearing on the opposite side. To re-install the 3/4" bearings, I found that a 1 1/8 socket fit the bearing cage perfectly on the edges and used that to seat them. I found that the bearings are not of any quality at all but went ahead and used them because the cart is very seldom even used. That being said, I did the best that I could to hand pack them with grease prior to their installation. Also, I had to use my die grinder with a stone, and grind out the interior of the hub, in order to camphor out the opening and to remove the paint from the insides but just the depth of the bearing cage. The 3/4" cages are a bit too tight and removing a couple thousandths material will make this swap a whole lot easier for you. Be sure to put grease on the inside of the hub and pack the bearings prior to installing. I also found that when tightening the zirk fitting's,, that they ended up pointing towards the rim thusly preventing you from being able to use your grease gun to lube the wheels occasionally, so I removed them and put some small fiber washers on them and re-installed them and now the zirks are pointed out and exact for servicing.. Hope this information will help everyone out a bit.. Cheers and Good Luck

I used this on my decades old Ames Wheelbarrow that's had a flat for the last few years. I wanted the flat free version and this seems like it'll work for general home duty. My axle was a direct fit and I had to use the two narrowest spacers (included). The only drawback is that it sits a little high in the front as it's slightly larger diameter but that's not a big deal. In fact it might be easier to use now.

I have a Craftsman wheelbarrow and the tire kept going flat (depite fix-a-flat, gunk, etc. After spending $12 a pop to have it fixed, I went to the this Flat-free tire. It feels just like a normal tire and the kit allowed adjustment to my 6" hub width. I would by this product again. I shopped around and the local coop had the tire for $39.99, but with only a 3" hub. So, if you aren't sure get the kit.

I have several wheelbarrows. I have flat free tires on them from a different manufacturer. The others are a more substantial tire. The others are higher floatation tires. Something I need as I work in the Mojave Desert of California .The Marathon 00265 tire is narrow or skinny and sinks into loose soil when the wheelbarrow is hauling a load. To compensate for this , I carry smaller loads . .
