Highly recommended and entertaining. Will bring them hrs of joy.
This marble run has lived in my house for almost three months now, and is still going strong. Yes, that is my litmus test. My kids aren't wild, but they do put toys through their paces. Toys are for playing with, not looking at. They should survive a few knocks and bumps.
The most important thing to consider before buying any marble run (I've seen it mentioned in other reviews, but I'll say it again): if anyone expects to take the pieces out of the box, hand them to a child, and have that child construct something stable and 100% functional without help...that person will be disappointed and upset. It takes a bit of learning and a bit of finessing. My 6-year old only knew how to work this because they have one in his classroom. An adult needs to be involved in construction at least the first few times so the child understands how to get the pieces to fit together properly; how to attach the pieces so the marble doesn't get stuck; how to build with proper vertical supports. Kids don't teach themselves physics.
That said, this run is awesome. Sometimes, when they're out of the house, I make a new one for them just for fun. It's challenging, but rewarding--even for an adult. Highly recommend.
The rest of the pieces are pretty solid. In that cheap generic plastic kind of way. It has survived a 3 year old and 5 year old messing with it so I'd say it does pretty good. I've been able to build a pretty tall stable tower with it and it's worked well. Could stand to use a few more barrel pieces but it's cheap so I can't complain too much.
There's a decent mix of pieces for such a basic set so you can put together a few different scenarios.
If your kids really like marble runs and you don't mind a semi-cheap feeling set then you could definitely do worse. Mine like it.
We also tried it with the water beads; although they work fine through the smooth runs, they get hung up on the ridged pieces. However, it IS delightful to watch the kids' reactions to those beads flying all over the place at the ends of the steeper drops.
