Well, here I am again after quickly reading the second book in this series. These are not long stories. I am still not sure how I feel about this author. Her style is certainly different. There is no in depth examination of anyone or anything. Usually I love a dialogue driven book, but, this is not even exactly that. I realize that this is a serial story but I am still not completely sure how I feel about the style.
The characters in these books are not explained fully and yet, you like them. My biggest complaint is that it is like looking at the world through rose colored glasses. People are NOT this perfect. Everyone is kind, sweet, loving and mostly perfect. Really? Oh wait there is the Duchess who is the epitome of evil. The time period seems to be written in a very nostalgic way...yes it was a less complicated time but also life could be brutal. There were plenty of hardships.
Marriage is a quickly accomplished with little or no real interaction between characters. Just odd, yet, still oddly interesting.
The strangest thing of all is that I will probably buy the next in the series. If I had bought the first two books seperately as a single novel and not a series I would have not thought they were a good read.
I am giving myself a break and reading a book by one of my favorite authors. Then I will probably read the next in the series.
I would really love to hear from people like myself who are finding this book not really their cup of tea, but as I keep saying, oddly compelling.
It is recommend for anyone over 14 and is perfectly fine for that age, but the storyline is not especially for young people. Maybe I have found my problem. I am too old a reader for these books but I will read one more because I am interested in Camerons story. Go figure!
This was my first time reading Marti Talbott and I am glad I was able to receive the first book free through my Kindle. I feel as though I will search for more of her books and hope that if I read anymore of her series books I will not be disappointed. I appreciate her style of writing and the sweetness of her stories.
But....the numerous grammatical and spelling errors, and typos are a constant source of irritation and distraction. Considering the number of titles in the series and the cost of each book some good proof reading would be appropriate.
I have read several of the Highlanders books by the same Author and would recommend both series to anyone who loves an enjoyable and easy read.
