Joe is a new addition to the family and is fighting being enveloped by this big, loving and somewhat overbearing family. He wants to stick with being alone, his Navy SEAL missions and not being part of the family's vineyard business. He fights his attraction to the sassy, beautiful, and yet vulnerable Darcy.
Yeah - okay, already silly. What secret service would put innocent lives at risk by housing the President's daughter that is at risk of being kidnapped? The whole friggin' family is there. Parents, grandparents, grandkids, aunts, uncles, etc. Sounds silly.
But it works. Checked my reality at the door a bit. Wasn't a huge reach, but it started off a bit unrealistic in that storyline.
This book takes places mainly on this vineyard. The relationship between Darcy and Joe grows slowly. There are other bonds that grow: hers with Joe's family, Joe's with his own family, Grandparents with each other, etc.
There is a secondary romance - but it didn't really interest me and wasn't sure why it was needed. But oh well.
The author makes the journey incredibly fun, flirty, and fluid. I found myself laughing out loud. Engrossed in their feelings. Wanting them to get together for their HEA.
I thought the author did a great job of growing their friendship through conversation: sensitive revealing of feelings, humorous dialogue, sarcastic dialogue and honest reveals. I like that the author didn't have the H&h lying to each other to save pride, no big misunderstandings, no major angst.
It was a fluffy read, but I found myself surprised at how much I enjoyed the book. I felt their feelings poignantly, but not over-bearingly so.
The other characters add a lot to the story. Funny, annoying relatives. Descriptions of the meals. A few hot scenes, but not overly done.
This book will not rock your world with heavy deep emotions.
But it was definitely an engrossing, fun, funny, endearing book. I highly recommend this.
No cliff hanger.
Do no have to read this in order.
When a kidnap attempt on the president's daughter, Darcy Jensen, calls for her to be placed in protective custody, Joe is called upon to help hide her at the Marcelli Winery. Now Joe is forced to deal with not only the family he's trying to avoid, but also Darcy, a woman he finds himself falling in love with, no matter how hard he fights against it.
Susan Mallery is an author who continually delivers stories that I am unable to put down! In The Marcelli Bride both Joe and Darcy are facing personal issues that make it hard for them to trust in love, but that doesn't stop them from falling for each other. And I quickly fell in love with them too! I can't wait for the next Marcelli book. Filled with humor, emotion and action, The Marcelli Bride should be on every romance lovers reading list!
