At the early age of 19, Walter Marcyan began training with barbells and soon after won the central AAU Light Heavyweight Lifting Championship. From 1934 through 1940, Walter Marcyan began entertaining audiences as a Vaudeville Strongman, performing incredible feats of strength and balancing acts.
In the early 1940’s, Walter Marcyan moved to Santa Monica, California where he began training at the newly established Muscle Beach: a famous training facility that still exists today and where many of the legendary pioneers of bodybuilding such as Jack LaLanne, Bill Pearl, and Arnold Schwarzenegger began their careers.
In 1946, he opened the first of seven strength training gymnasiums, House of Health, in the Los Angeles area. He was the first to offer personal trainers to his members and emphasized the importance of strength training to men, women and children.
In the early 1950’s, Marcyan participated in the first organized body building competition. Based on his own personal experiences, he began building his own strength training equipment for his gyms in Los Angeles.
In 1959, Marcyan founded Marcy Gymnasium Equipment Company. He believed that everyone should have the opportunity and the knowledge to exercise at home with their own, professional grade equipment. He was an innovator and a visionary. His patented designs were years ahead of their time and still widely used in commercial and home applications today.
Now, 50 years old and still going stronger than ever, the legendary Marcy brand continues to make its mark by offering new and innovative products to consumers worldwide.
The MWM 990 features over 30 strength training exercises for a total body workout. Just like what you're used to in the clubs, the MWM-990 offers many of the same exercises that work the entire body and target most major muscles. Burn calories and increase lean muscle mass. Resistance training not only builds lean and powerful muscles, it also increases your metabolic rate, allowing you to burn more calories and lose unwanted weight. Due to the design of the MWM-990, utilizing pulleys and cables connected to a selectorized weight stack, you'll never waste valuable time loading and unloading weight plates. In comparison, the MWM-990 home training system exercises are safer than traditional free weight exercises because the weights are never suspended over your body; but rather, is stored behind a protective weight stack where they can't injure you.

There is a removable angled armrest for "preacher bar curls". I'd love to see one that is fully vertical - with that I could put a chair in front of it facing the weight stack, rest my chest on it, and be able to use the chest press handles for horizontal rows.
Overall, though, for the money it is very good. All the parts were there and well labeled - the only damage was the "MARCY" decal on the front, which doesn't matter to me. It went together very easily - I highly recommend a socket wrench and a screwgun with an allen-key (the directions recommend an adjustable wrench - the allen keys are provided). It took me only a few hours to assemble working with a friend.
If you are smaller than me you'll have no problem with the lat pulldowns; but unless you're quite thin I would expect that you'll have problems with the flys.
EDIT - In case anyone has the same difficulty as I did with the chest-press handles making the flys impossible - I took the mounting bolts for the chest-press handles off; determined that they were a metric M10 x 1.5 thread size; the bolt length is 15 mm. I searched for this and found something similar on Amazon offered through JW Winco. I went to the J.W. Winco site ([...]) and found the EXACT bolt I needed with a nice knob on the end (see pics). Their part number is 10N20E09/ST.
Just in case there is a variation in bolt, I recommend taking a bolt down to your local hardware store where they'll have a display of nuts - you just find the nut that your bolt fits and you'll know the thread size.
It only takes a few minutes to unscrew all four bolts by hand to remove the handles, then I have no problem with the flys.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a space saver home gym. It is very comfortable to sit in and use, and you don't feel squeezed in (I'm not a small person 6' tall - 300lb) have plenty of room to move while working out.
AMAZON reviewer David Halbstein did, and replace the bolts with 4 knobs, JW Winco model number 10N15E09/ST Plastic hand knobs. (you can find them for sale on amazon, just do a search for the model number, plus they are the cheapest you can find anywhere else)
It is well built and you should years of use out of it.
