At the early age of 19, Walter Marcyan began training with barbells and soon after won the central AAU Light Heavyweight Lifting Championship. From 1934 through 1940, Walter Marcyan began entertaining audiences as a Vaudeville Strongman, performing incredible feats of strength and balancing acts.
In the early 1940’s, Walter Marcyan moved to Santa Monica, California where he began training at the newly established Muscle Beach: a famous training facility that still exists today and where many of the legendary pioneers of bodybuilding such as Jack LaLanne, Bill Pearl, and Arnold Schwarzenegger began their careers.
In 1946, Walter Marcyan opened the first of seven strength training gymnasiums, House of Health, in the Los Angeles area. He was the first to offer personal trainers to his members and emphasized the importance of strength training to men, women and children.
In the early 1950’s, Walter Marcyan participated in the first organized body building competitions. Based on his own personal experiences, Walter Marcyan began building his own strength training equipment for his gyms in Los Angeles.
In 1959, Walter Marcyan founded Marcy Gymnasium Equipment Company. Walter Marcyan believed that everyone should have the opportunity and the knowledge to exercise at home with their own, professional grade equipment. Walter Marcyan was an innovator and a visionary. His patented designs were years ahead of their time and still widely used in commercial and home applications today.
Now, 50 years old and still going stronger than ever, the legendary Marcy brand continues to make its mark by offering new and innovative products to consumers worldwide.

I give this product 3 stars for three main reasons: 1) The back rest adjuster knob on the bench was welded completely off center at the factory and it would not click in to any of the adjustment holes. I had to grind it off and re-weld it on myself to align it properly. 2) The bench is a bad design, because the way it adjusts, with one bar on the left side under the padding, makes it very weak, and I honestly expect it to break once I get a little stronger doing bench press... 3) They short changed me hardware, meaning I had to make a Home Depot run and pick up some nuts. None of these issues cost me more than about $2 additionally, but the idea that it came brand new and it was of such poor production was very upsetting.
So far I have only used it for squats, chin ups, and dips, but it seems to hold up fairly well. It isn't the most sturdy piece of equipment I've used, by far, but I think it will hold my weight and anything I can lift well, probably for any amount of strength I may gain. I was also disappointed that the catches and safety bars are not solid and have very thin welds, are not fabricated very squarely, and seem to fit in the holes a little too loosely. But they do have ample "c" shapes hugging the frame tubes that secure them very well even though they jiggle.
All said and done, I don't think I could get someone to buy this from me on CraigsList for the same price I paid for it on here, so I will probably keep it. If I could do it over again I'd probably buy something from Valor, or possibly XMark (since I can't afford commercial quality). 3 stars because the price was decent when including a bench, and I should be able to get some use out of it.
Not to mention the bench has no locking mechanism to keep it in place. If you have to move it from one to another, or are moving in general it will ravel and unravel. Not just this when you get on it to actually bench press with dumbells because of the design you will feel it wobble from one side to another this is because again their is no secure mechanism or pin. It is also held by light metal twigs. If you watch the amazon video you will see the guys bench is wobbling and he has to be in balance. The leg press need to be more up so your 45 pound weights don't hit you or the floor. This product was a good idea but not well executed. It is basically a injure tower waiting to happen. When working out you want to make sure you're lifting gear is sturdy, and safe so you don't have to worry about injury, and can put your full focus towards the exercise. If your a rookie at lifting this is even worse for you. A person with years of training their muscles has enough control and disciplined to know how to get out of these different problems but an amateur or young teen would get hurt. I use to like it when I first got it but then I ran inbto so many problems and saw how dangerous it was. Not to mention for the cost it should have been better.
As others have mentioned, there were some issues with packaging -- but, unfortunately, it's nothing worse than you normally see with heavy items being shipped. One of the packages of bolts had broken open, but everything was in the box and easy enough to account for. The cage and bench come in separate boxes, but one piece (all of one piece) from the bench was in the box for the cage, and at first I thought I was going to be stuck waiting for a replacement. I decided to dig around through the cage box, however, and there it was.
I did have one issue that almost has me wanting to bump this down to 3 stars -- there are two support bars you have to attach underneath the seat on the bench. The drilled holes on one of the bars were out of alignment and the bench could not be assembled as-is. I was able to fix this in all of 5-10 minutes with a diamond tip grinding bit on a dremel by widening the hole about about a quarter inch, but not everyone may have the tools on hand for that.
I assembled both units myself. It took some time and a few parts were a pain, but if you have enough room that you can lay the cage down as needed, it alleviates a lot of the awkward balancing (and desperate need for a third arm).
If there are any issues long-term with durability, I will update the review.
